Asking everyone to moderate themselves is pointless, if we are all acting alone. That’s trying to achieve order without structure - like asking for daylight without the sun - because if 100 members want to post VsPolls and all moderate themselves to a single poll per week (or even per month) there is still going to be a flood.

Teamwork and cooperation instead of chaos is more likely to produce the environments and excitement we lost when the forum changed earlier this year. The VsPolls are new playgrounds, something a lot of members have embraced and are enjoying. Wise businessmen tune into market appeal, not out. So let’s sculpt some rules, maybe create new sub-categories.

Could we please shift this discussion to this thread: Versus Polls: Voting time limits? (I’ll post this there also.)

btw - the voting currently favors 1 month for each poll’s run time.

Here's a start. Still to be determined is the 'head-to-head voting window'.

Rules for VsPolls Competition.

Each VsPoll’s head-to-head competition ends when voting window closes.

Losers can return to the fray by accumulating enough total votes, which means every vote will always matter. But the competition in each VsPoll is over after the head-to-head voting window closes.

Suggestions?

Yes a little suggestion, do a little of each battle récape every month to see who won and who lost during periods I suggest that this battle does not take place for at least two or three days to make the summary all this was done, and avoiding mistakes, doing this as it will allow limited game that was already there, and always creates new battle as diverse as exciting.

I intend to do a subject in its summary power specially opened it.

and someone else will do something else to announce the battle has come and how members.

I voted 'other'. I think polls should stay open forever for new members or new forum users can join the fun.

I just checked it with my secondary account and if a thread with a poll has been closed by the mods no one can vote anymore.
I thought the poll might still work but it does not.
So if you get a mod to close the polls after a given time you can prevent the forum being clogged with old polls being brought back up and you can freeze the result.
My vote is 2 weeks here and start max. 2 polls in one week then let them run for 2 weeks and then start the next ones. This way there will always be one week with no new polls. And try to get the mods to close the threads after 2 weeks. This should effectively prevent the forum from getting clogged with old and new polls.

A poll category could work but still, there must be a limit time.

I like these polls and if they are open too long, I personally lose interest. I like new polls so 2 weeks should be enough time.

Make things complicated and no one will follow it.

Use the KISS principle.

I vote for 1 week and then the poll be closed.

Self moderation does work, we have proved that with the volume of pics being posted. Some time ago, a number of members started posting in excess of 10 pics in a session and then repeated in another post.

The stick came out and members were initially asked for moderation, which was mostly adhered to. A very few members were harder to convince.

@CyberVixen or @Cartref:

I have just one question. I opened a poll 2 days ago and I want to close it in 5 days more that´s the week. What´s the procedure to close it when the time comes? Thanks.

I agree, with the 1 week for the Poll duration.
I also want to add this stipulation as well.

There is no need to Post Daily or Hourly Poll updates to the threads..
A couple of the Polls have see a results update every couple hours and this is not necessary. The Poll results can be seen by anyone who reads the thread and votes, or clicks on See results.

Let them run their Course, and when the poll has reached it's end, Tally and Post the results.
Then Ask one of the MODS to have the poll closed.

Most people have voted for 1 or 2 weeks, and the 2 week option has been leading slightly since the poll opened. While I personally prefer 1 week or no limit at all, in deference to the members' choices I would like to test both time frames. Here's what I'm proposing:

1 week time limit on polls in Everything about VGs, then close the voting.
2 week time limit on polls in Everything about DBs, then close the voting.

At the moment everybody is ignoring DBs in the VsPolls. There are none active. By starting with a 2 week poll we can build interest in DB VsPolls as was done with VGs, give members enough time to find it. The 1st scheduled DeskBabes poll is this Sunday, July 22th. Maverick will present Cindy Dollar Vs Sandra Shine!

A new approach:
Here’s a poll where the score needs to be interpreted and reported, perhaps discussed by any who disagree with my summary of the results thus far, or who have other options to present.

The poll says only 1/3 of the voters favor a 1 week voting period. 22 total votes
The vast majority, twice as many people, want longer than 1 week. 44 total votes.

We should accommodate the majority because -

The votes don’t show up in Last 50 posts, thus there is no reason to close the voting. Only a comment will register.

My proposal is: Close the posting of images and comments after the weekly winner is declared. Leave the voting open.

If you are a new member who comes across Anna Tatu Vs Melisa after the competition has closed, you can still register your opinion with a vote and your vote will count in your girl’s overall ranking. The lifetime totals for every model in a VsPoll will be listed monthly in Moitoucour’s Results Summary for the Versus Polls.

Some supporting data: Last week, ending when Friday’s Tina Vs Satin poll was released:
182 members voted in polls more than 7 days old, out of 526 total votes for week7. (34%)

I have no particular objection, but generally prefer to keep the polls shorts, because its easier to administer.

However, the point that WA made about the posting of summaries or updates on a reguar basis is critical. There is no need until thend. Posting or udates to the totals only clutters the forum and is not acceptable.

Actually, I see nothing wrong with an update/warning that there is just one day left to vote in a given poll.

Shhh! Don’t tell anybody. Cindy, fake boobs and all, has quietly slipped into the lead: 38-35.

Sample from the 1st DeskBabes VsPoll, with text...

Wolffrnd - Like a Two-minute-Warning? Or the carousel's Last Days? I like it, but think every bump of a VsPoll should come with an image, as above.

It's easy enough to add artwork or photos to the thread. Then the score can be included in the same post without unnecessary bumping.

So, Cartref, how does this sound: 1 week of voting to decide the winner, and close the topic. Then, for members who scroll thru the Closed thread's artwork and photos: a posterity vote.

For me the "new approach" works, as I travel extensively and may not have access to VGHD for 5-7 days. Thanks T

first i must sort my mind....too much Diablo III played today.

in my eyes there are to options.

1st: after a week the topic and voting will be closed and we can declare a winner of the poll.

2nd: when the topic will be closed and the voting is still open there is no need to declare a winner.

the question is now which option we will choose.

What about the VSpolls running two weeks instead of one week?

In a couple of the VSpolls, there were still quite a bit of voting in days 8 & 9.

There are a few ways around closing the vote along with the thread.

We could include a central link, where closed polls are still open to voters but not posters.

Or perhaps CV was right, and we should employ her strategy:

by moderator CyberVixen - 12 day(s) ago

all it takes is self moderation

So let's put a banner at the bottom of closed polls stating:
