Not sure if this is the right area for this question, but i know we have several people that help with istripper tech questions and I am about to get a new computer and this will be the first time i will be attempting to transfer my files over so i dont have to redownload everything... what I need to know is... does someone have a guide or steps on how to do it? I will be hooking the two computers up to each other, but what i dont know is how to exactly get my istripper account over to the new computer. Do I just download istripper on the new computer, log in (will have to find my username and password which i should have). Then transfer the model folder over? Do i transfer other folders as well? I just dont want to have to redownload every single model I have so if anyone can let me know what i need to do to make this as painless as possible???? And if this is the wrong section, please feel free to move it to the proper section to ask this question...

Thanks

If you're using a Mac, I can provide some help. The expert on these matters is @Wyldanimal. If you aren't using an external drive to store your collection, all you need to do is copy the VGHD folder from you old computer to the new one and sign on to iStripper from your new computer with your current user ID and password.

If you have iStripper installed on more than one computer, you should uninstall it from your old computer before signing on to the new one. However, the moderators can fix this if you forget to uninstall.

The only things that you need to copy is the Models folder and any of the bonus items (videos, picture sets and fullscreen scenes - especially any user created ones) that you have downloaded. You could also copy the remaining contents of the Data folder but the data there does not take long to download anyway so there is little point in doing so.

You can do the copying berfore or after installing on the new system - its slightly less error prone if you do it after installing as you can then make certain that you are copying the files to the right places, but if you are copying anything from the data directory be careful not to overwrite the newer files with the old ones.

If you keep the models folder on an external drive you do not even need to copy it at all, just point iStripper to the external drive.

If it is a Standard Install where the Folders for the Models and Data folders are NOT customized.

Note: This is for Advanced Users, it's my method of duplicating a working install on to a New PC.

On Current PC
use regedit
export the current Totem Branch to a file
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Totem
export the Version branch to a file
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stdin2

Video: http://www.deskbabes.net/videos/Export_Registry_001.mp4

copy these files to the new PC
use regedit to Import the files to the registry

Video: http://www.deskbabes.net/videos/Import_Registry_001.mp4

You will now have a copy of all of your iStripper settings on the new PC
Use regedit to delete the values stored in the following Keys
in the branch
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Totem\vghd\DLM
delete the values in these Keys
installid
reinst

Video: http://www.deskbabes.net/videos/Clear_Keys_001.mp4

Now Copy All the Files from the Data Folders from the Old PC to the New PC

We will Copy the Models Folders after we install and Get iStripper Running.

Now that the Data has been Copied
lets Install iStripper
make sure you know your Username and Password.

Video: http://www.deskbabes.net/videos/Install_iStripper_New_PC_001.mp4

Now your Entire Collection Will Show as NOT downloaded.
We will fix that after we make sure all is working.

Select a single card and Download it.
Then make sure it will Play.

Video: http://www.deskbabes.net/videos/Download_One_Card_001.mp4

Now that you know the card plays and the Installation is Working...
Quit iStripper
Copy All of the Models Folders from the Old PC to the New PC

This could Take a Really Long time ( days.. even more than a week )
So you can do this all at once, or in Small Batches...

After you copy the models ( even after a small batch )
Start iStripper
go to Settings, Advance Settings
then Rebuild Collection. Wait How ever Long it takes for it to finish...

It may do the rebuild all on it's Own... Like it just did now...

Video: http://www.deskbabes.net/videos/Copy_Models_Rebuild_Collection_001.mp4
The Models you Copied will Now Show as being Downloaded.

I'll attach the Video Clips when I edit this Post.

WHY I use the Registry Export and Import:
Over the years I have done the Install of Test Accounts on Multiple PCs many times.
I have discovered that I got the Best results by Coping the Registry from an Existing Working Install
to a New PC, and then Delete the Installation Key Values eliminated many of the Issues that I'd have if I didn't start with a working registry.

So when ever I duplicate a working copy to a new PC, I copy the registry.

I also make sure that I edit the PATHS before I install iStripper, if I'm using Custom Paths on the New or Old PC.

If you ONLY use the Standard paths, then you don't need to edit the Paths...

Now that you know everything is working on the New PC, you can remove the files from the old PC

Thanks for the info... is it a problem to download istripper on the new PC and log into that account with my user name and password to get my account, even if i still have it installed on the old PC? Just concerned that would look like two profiles on two computers and wouldnt let me access it...

My thought process was this.
Download the Istripper on new computer and logg in with username and password.
See my account on new computer
Move models folder over to where I have Istripper installed on the new computer
Then click rebuild collection, it should then see all the models i have and shouldnt have to download.
Pray it works....

While I appreciate Wyldanimal all your info, i am hoping not to have to mess with the registry if at all possible... IF i run into problems... I will watch your videos and follow your guide to a T. I will try the above way unless you see a major problem with doing it this way or if Totem wont allow this to be done this way... I will be attempting this over the weekend as my new PC just came in today.....
Thanks again for all the help...

Pray it works....

The process you outlined is how it is supposed to work - and which worked for me the first time I reinstalled.

However, depending on how many installs you already have then you may first need to uninstall one of the old ones (or have it cancelled by a moderator). Or you can copy the Models folder first, uninstall the old version and then install on the new computer. If you do this you can then either move the copied files to where iStripper wants them or can use the settings page to make iStripper use them wherever you have put them.

Copying the models before uninstalling and reinstalling also has the advantage that you can still use your old installation while you copy the files so there need be no extended period when you don't have access to your whole collection.

I now have my models folder on an external drive (with a second as backup) so I don't need to copy the models folder - which can take quite a few hours for a large collection.

Remember to also copy any user created fullscreen scenes that you may have, and any picture sets and bonus videos that you may have downloaded.

You are allowed for 2 installs and 1 is active at this time. So, you can install the software one more time.

In my professional opinion: It all depends on what you need and how you plan to use it.

In the long run an 64 bit computer is the way to go.

  • 64 bits : all the PC and Mac are 64bit since at least 10 years. So, not a question
  • RAM : to be comfortable for a common usage, 16GB is enough (DDR4 3200 C16)
  • Disks : an SSD with 512GB for the OS and the softwares you are using. A HDD with 8TB to store your huge collection of shows (and other datas like photos, videos, documents, etc). And maybe another one external (if you haven't it yet) for the backup of your datas
  • graphic card : for me, the minimum is a Nvidia RTX 3050, you can play games at 1920x1080 60fps and you will have a good performance to play iStripper's shows with multiple girls at the same time.

Since iStripper is currently a 32 bit app
it can only use a MAX of 4GB of RAM. ( 3.5GB is about the actual limit )
So you must have at least 4GB of Available Memory to use iStripper to it's fullest potential.
I'd say 8GB is the Very Low Limit that you should have. 16GB or More is Better.

Also, the GPU memory becomes the Limit in GPU rendering Mode.
so if your GPU only has 2GB of RAM then that is the Limit for iStripper.

This is important to know if you are a premium member and use 4K resolution clips.
some of the 4K clips use 1GB of Memory per clip.
so you would be Limited to 2 or 3 clips on screen at a time, if the GPU does not have enough RAM.
4GB or more on the GPU is Ideal.

Okay, I think i was successful for the most part. I was able to logg back in, I pointed the folder where all my models are to my second hard drive (which is where i transtered the models folder). I can see all my collection now, they are there, but everyone has Update written over them? The ones i had originally downloaded are there, they are not greyed out (the ones I didnt download are greyed out as they should be) but the ones that are downloaded and are lit up all say update on them If i click the cirlce to update, is this going to redownload all each card again? because i already have the entire folder with the cards on them... Also, is there a way to update all instead of having to click on each card?

Overall, I think it worked... just wondering about the update on each card question....

Thanks for any help....

I would try using Synchronise With Server and Rebuild Collection. It will not take long, will not make matters worse but it may clear the Update flags.

Try it on one card go into the data folder for that card and move all the files to a different folder so you can recover them you can recover them but what you want to do is empty out the data folder and let the app redownload all the files for the data folder and that should reset the update flag for that particular card

Okay, when you say data folder... Lets say card e0035. in the folder of e0035 there are a bunch of files..... but among all those folders of all the models, there is a folder called data and in the data folder is a folder labeled e0035 as well and in that folder is just one file, basically a pic of the model... which files are you saying to move? the pic file in the data folder or all those files in the e0035 folder?

It sounds like your folder structure is NOT standard, and that could be part of your Issue.
folders of all the models, there is a folder called data

Normally, you have one Main VGHD folder, and in that Folder are Three SubFolders.

for Example my Main folder is
C:\Users\WyldAniaml\AppData\Local\vghd

And I have Three Subfolders
C:\Users\WyldAniaml\AppData\Local\vghd\bin
C:\Users\WyldAniaml\AppData\Local\vghd\data
C:\Users\WyldAniaml\AppData\Local\vghd\models

in the registry there are Three Keys that tell the App where these Three folders are.
Registry Branch
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Totem\vghd\System

Keys:
MainPath = C:\Users\WyldAnimal\AppData\Local\vghd\bin
DataPath = C:\Users\WyldAnimal\AppData\Local\vghd\data
ModelsPath = C:\Users\WyldAnimal\AppData\Local\vghd\models

The Path on the HDD where the files are Must be exactly the same as the Values set for the Registry Keys.

Expanding on @Wyldanimal 's post.

By default iStripper will create the folders and registry entries in the way exemplified in his post. It does, however, provide a built in mechanism by which you can change the location of the 'models' folder but not that of the 'bin' folder nor that of the 'data' folder.

Unless you are confident in your ability regarding editing registry entries (and even if you are) I would advise only changing the location of the models folder, and do that via the iStripper settings page.

This is what i did....

First I copied the enter VGHD folder from my old computer which was E:VGHD to my new computer which is now D:VGHD. To copy that took almost 25 hours... but it got them all over.

Then I downloaded and installed istripper on the new computer. I then logged into my account. Went to settings and told istripper the location of where I want to download new files at.. which is now D:VGHD. I then synced the server and hit rebuild collection... but nothing really happened. All my models are there but they all say update.... IF i hit the update button, it seems to download something.. but not the entire file because they are there.. i can see the shows, etc and they are not greyed out...

If nothing can be done.. I can live with the update on all of them...

I figured it out and to why most of my cards have the update by them.... Its because on some cards I had deleted the preview part of the card because i dont need the previews on the cards so it saves space... I discovered this by looking at a row of cards (10 cards). The entire row says update on them. I looked at the properties of my D:VGHD folder where all the cards are and wrote down the number of the space which gives it down to the KB. I then took the entire row and updated all ten cards. Then went back to the D:VGHD folder and looked at properties again.... it went up a significant amount.... I wrote that number down as well... I then went back and deleted the preview shows from all ten cards and went back and checked the D:VGHD folder and it was BACK to the orginial space before i updated... so all these cards that need to be updated is for the preview shows I am taking... since the total space went up by the preview amount and then back down when i deleted them... and i am talking to the KB..... It would be nice in the future if we had an option in the settings to never download the preview of shows from the start... that way some that dont want the preview never have to worry about it on any cards they get.....

Does anyone think this could be it???

Thanks

Yes, if you delete the previews, when you do a Rebuild collection the software sees that some clips are missing and set the flag "Update" to "On" to download these clips, in order to complete the cards.

When I did the same a while ago all cards had the update marks, but it is normal and it will run very quickly, because the system will check only the file integrity and not even download them if not neccessary. 5-6 sec/card
