Is 4K much better than 3K resolution on my 1920 x 1080 monitor ?

Obviously I'm thinking about premium account - but only reason is to get 4K shows (I might get a 4K monitor next year). I dont care about 20% discount on new shows, because I wait until event, buy a shed load of credits and expand my collection then.

If 4K is significantly nicer than 3K then hell, why not !... else I can't see the point.

4K shows already look better than 3K shows on smaller screens, but they look the best on a 4K screen, like the one I use or my 4K TV.

Short answer: it depends from your eyes...
Some see quite a big difference (me included), some don't see any difference.

Something else to think about @supermouse is the power of your machine and your storage space.

When I went to 4K , in addition to getting a 55" 4K monitor I also had to upgrade my machine to get a quad-core with I5 10th Generation chip to have the power to run the shows without interruption or stutter plus a brace of 4tB storage devices to hold the files and back ups. The average size of a 4K show is 1.8gB and some of the individual clips are over 300mB in size.

If you look at 3k, the difference is visible compared to 1080.
From 3k to 4k, this is less obvious, the size increases according to your screen, without doubt, better quality.
But is the investment worthwhile, not so sure.

I would Agree with this, except unless you have a very Large 1080p Screen, say over 40"
like a50 - 70 or 80" screen.

Remember 1080p is the same number of Pixels, no Matter the Physical size of the Screen.
The Difference is the Size or Spacing between each Pixel.
on a Small screen, the Pixels are more tightly Packed. A much Higher DPI or PPI ( dot per inch , Pixel per inch )
on a larger screen, the Pixels are more spaced apart or bigger in size and can lead to a Screen Door effect when viewed close up.

At a distance your eye and your brain are tricked to blend them together so you don't notice the screen door as much if at all.

But I do Doubt if there is any perceived difference between a 3K clip and a 4K clip seen on a 1080p screen.

A person might think there is, because they know it..
But doing a Blind test, when the image is reveled and you don't know what resolution the clip is.

There certainly is a difference between 4k and 3k on a 1080 screen. I desperately wanted there not to be a difference because it costs more money to go for 4k cards. I screen record every card in fullscreen with filters and on the desktop so I can zoom in and there is a noticable difference. I would imagine it is like 25% more crisp considering the extra data in 4k vs. 3k files...and is really noticable in cards that might have some native blur due to mistakes in the original filming. Not every card is created the same. Again, I wish it wasn't so...4k runs slower, takes up more HD space, and costs more money as it is the main reason to go premium but...it just looks better.

There is a complication involving how the 3k (2560 x1440) or 4k (3840 × 2160) clip is scaled down to fit the 1920 x 1080 pixels of physical the screen that the OP asked about. In the case of 4k there is an exact integer 2:1 ratio in involved while in the 3k case involves non-integer pixels ratios. The result will depend on how well this is handled both in hardware and software as well as your eyes.

A few years ago I think I would have been able to notice the difference, I can still just about see the individual pixels on my 1600 x 900 laptop screen when viewed at a normal distance and I used to be able to clearly see the individual pixels as sharply defined squares on a 1920 x 1080 monitor with a 20 inch or so screen (when viewed at a normal distance for a desktop monitor) so much so that used to find it somewhat uncomfortable to use such screens due to the high spatial frequencies arising from the sharp edges of the pixels and stuck to CRT monitors because their pixels had softer, less obvious, edges at the same pixel counts and physical resolution - which effectively meant that they provided better anti-aliasing.

Nowadays my eyes have deteriorated just enough that at normal monitor viewing distances individual pixels are not so obvious to me but given my past experience I can well believe that for some the difference between 3k and 4k would be noticable even on something like a 24 inch screen.

They are much better. But only if you are using 4k monitor/tv.

My PC should handle this.... is an I9 and GTX 980Ti video card. but I need to wait until new year to buy a better monitor and a 2Tb SSD.... ( I have 973 shows and is nearly 1Tb in space) - so I think I WILL go with Premium BUT in the new year when I have better kit !!..

On a 1080p display, I do. And also between a 3K and a 4K one.
Here on thread, by the way, it looks like I am not the only one to be able doing so...
The higher the resolution, the crispier and more detailed - quite noticeably - is the animation.
