In the Desktop Settings screen is the option to set the erotic level. When I select 'Random hotness' I am given a menu allowing me to choose specific degrees of explicitness. If I select only 'X-rated' I end up without any VirtuaGirl performances appearing on my desk-top. Does this mean that the full shows that I have downloaded do not have any X-rated content included in them? If this is the case, then how do I make sure that the shows I choose to download do actually include X-rated content?

Yes, not all the shows include X-rated clips, rather few VG shows include that category.

Best solution is to use Wyldanimal's add on, that way you can see the clips included in each show.

Of course, reading the comment section in the model's pages sometimes is helpful to know a little of the content in advance, so you can chose your cards better if your looking for a particular content.

Both softwares run with the same interfase. You can chose what you see with the filters option in the collection window in the software.

The x-rated level is fairly new. You won't find cards using this level below card 655.
Before that it didn't exist. But that doesn't mean the shows didn't contain such content. It was just included as explicit clips.There are a lot of show that have harder content then the shows on VG with the new x-rated level. In your Collection that would be Maii, Natali Blond and Marie.
Still for buying new shows there is a way to know beforehand if it contains x-rated clips. Read this post and the follow up post
