Computer repair -- distributed models problems

Drive letter changes; revised AppData;

I now have Models and Data folders on two different drives. I'm ***** if the directory settings should point to the parent or the Models and Data folders. Can the Data for the second Models path be with the second drive location, or must all Data be together?

In any case, iStripper gets the clips from one location, but not the other, even though I give it that location. That is, it thinks the models for those other directories must be re-downloaded. And if I re-download (I've tried a few), they really do seem to redownload and overwrite existing files!

I don't want to re-download over 100 models whose files I already have.

And what does it mean to ask to rebuild? Does it mean to download them all -- or might it do something more intelligent? Can that process be stopped if I don't like what it's doing?

The models folder can be changed using the app advanced settings.
Scroll down to 'data' and change the storage folder. Make sure it is the same as the folder (including the drive letter) that contains your cards.

The storage folder should be the location where you want the models folder to be. Do not create that folder and then ask to add that folder or you will have models/models.

Rebuild only takes an inventory of the cards you own and which ones are downloaded.
It checks all folders as shown within the storage folder (as above mentioned).

What @JonC001 wrote is mostly correct.

Use of the App's Path setting in the Data section of the Settings, must be used with care.

The App will MOVE your Collection from it's previous Location to the New Location you select
the Next time you Quit and again Start the App.

This can take Minutes or Days, depending on the Size of your Collection, and where the NEW path is Located.

If no cards are found at the previous location to be Moved, then the app just starts Using the New Path as the Location for the Models Folder.

It is Important to understand to Pick the Parent folder of the Models folder, and NOT the Models Folder itself.
The App will APP a New Models folder to the Path Selected.

@RayJ121

iStripper only Uses ONE set of Data Paths, and Normally only one Set of Models Paths.

So having Two different sets of Models and Data Folders, Means Something has Changed in your Hardware setup.
The app was not able to find the Original Paths,
and the APP has created a NEW set of Data and Models Folders.
This means it has started Over with Empty Folders.
Do Not Erase any of the Files or Folders till you can figure out
which set of paths are the correct ones.

You May need to COPY the Files from one of the Sets of Paths to the Other to Correct the discrepancies.

it's more complicated than that.

Rebuild Collection starts an Inventory of What Files are in the Data and Models Paths on your Local Storage.
If a card is found to be fully downloaded, it is them marked as so.
Each Models folder and Data folder for a card, has Inventory controls files.
These files are also scanned, and your collection is set to Match the State of the Special Files.

For the Data folders, any missing Image files are attempted to be redownloaded from the Server.
For the Models folders, Only the Inventory and State of the card is scanned.
No Missing files are Downloaded for the Models Folder.

Also of Importance is this:
Each FIle in the folder is Discovered, Opened, and scanned. This takes time..

BUT, and it is a HUGE BUT...
If your Security software does not have a whitelist, or exception set.
the file access will trigger your Security software to Also, Check every File.
and if you have more than one Security App installed.
This means Multiple file Access, which all TAKEs more time.

on a Large Collection of 5000 plus cards,
this can take 5 to 10 minutes, or up to Hours ( if security software kicks in )

While working, you may see a spinning icon in the system tray.
Or the App screen might just become White or Black and show Not responding.

DO NOT interfere with this rebuild process. It must run to competition.

I ALWAYS shut off ALL of my Security software when Installing or updating iStripper
and I always set exceptions or whitelist the Entire VGHD set of folders and Sub-Folders.
I never let my Security software have access to these folders.

I can always run a Manual Scan on the folders or Files if I need to.
I've been using the Product since the Early 2000's ( even in the 90's )
And Not once have I ever had a REAL security issue caused by the Product.

I did a rebuild without any special steps about my Norton, and it was very fast and I think it helped a lot as well as optimizing the folder settings (I did so many things, it's hard to be positive which thing did the fixes). I now have many fewer shows that need downloaded. I only did this after settling on folder names to provide (see below).

The advice to use a parent folder name seems wrong in my experience. When I used a parent name (and deleted the <parent>/Models folder spec), the software then moved files directly to the parent and did NOT use the Models folder beneath. Maybe it used to work this way, but that's not my experience. And then I tried moving it back, by changing back to <parent>/Models and it only moved some and left many behind with a message I'd have to move them manually. My directory structure is now a mess! Or perhaps how it works it depends on some factors that were not explained?

I still don't understand if I can have several Data folders. Nor do I understand declaring those folders in Settings. I have not experimented so much with it.

After things settle down (I'm doing some 'new' downloads and Updates), I'll try more structure cleanup and see how that goes.
