@kaiju
This is freaking badass.
congrats.

Yes, it is Bad Ass Fun!

No I don't Live in a warehouse. This is where I work, My Office is under this Mezzanine.
It's basically storage space up there.
( I'd have my Office up there, but since the "Persons with Disability's Act" you Can't Occupy a work space if there is no Handicap Access to it. I'd need to Install an Elevator. )

After Work Hours, I get to go up to the Mezzanine and Do a Bit of Sim Racing. We've got a bunch of Guys from all around the world that Meet up on-Line and hold Weekly Races. E-racing is becoming a Huge thing! Las Vegas, just Held a $1,000,000 E-Racing event. 1st one, and it was a Big Success.

I agree with you about racing sims and, to a lesser extent, about flight sim games. However real flight sims, i.e. those used for pilot training, are something else entirely. I spent some time working on them a long time ago now, but even back in the late 1970's and early 1980's the immersive experience they provided was amazing. I never worked on a military sim but even a plain old Boeing 737 or Lockheed Tristar sim would often have an "acrobatic flight" mode that only the developers knew how to access, and I also fondly remember a bug that briefly gave us a four engined 737 that flew like a bat out of hell. However, to get back to "boring", one aspect of pilot training sims is that the training often is deliberately boring for long periods to replicate real flights, and only after the trainee is thoroughly bored is something exciting introduced - which might be anything from a simple indicator light failure up to multiple engine failures. Smoke pots (using hot oil) to simulate fires in electrical equipment were quite common and I remember being told of a sim that had the back of the cabin attached to a pneumatic ram so that it could induce ear popping to simulate an explosive decompression.

I'm Curious to know what racing sims you have experience with?

I hear many people say similar things, "Racing games are boring" but they have never actually driven / raced in a sim.

But 1st, I think you have to be passionate about driving and competitive racing.
If you have no interest in Racing, then yes, it won't appeal to you.

But still I'm interested to know which Sim, because there is a stark difference between the run of the mill Arcade driving game, and a racing Sim. set up in Simulation mode.
Most Sims, can be set to a novice / easy setting where they are very Arcade like.
Arcade being, step on Gas and Steer. yep, boring...

But a Sim is, Modulate throttle to avoid wheel spin, control braking to not lock up the tires, watch corner entry speed to avoid under steer, maybe counter with a blip of the gas to induce over steer, push a little harder each lap, shave tenths off your lap times..
Get all right, and you put down a fast clean lap.
Get it slightly wrong, and your at the back of the pack..
An hour long race are won, by Tenths of a second, sometimes it comes down to the thousandths of a second.

Here is a screen shot of the Closest finish I ever had.. A few days ago...
I blocked out the names of the other drivers..

but I won the Podium by 0.002 of a second... Two One Thousandths of a second !

Coming out of the last corner, accelerating to the Start / Finish Line, you might reach 100 mph at the Line.
At 100 mph How much of a difference is that? 3.52 inches.
and that is after 45 minutes of hard racing!

At the end of the race, your Heart is Pounding, hands are all sweaty, and you have a huge adrenaline rush..
You've been pushing the car and your ability to the limits on the raged edge non-stop for 45 minutes..
The Thrill of the race, the comradery of the competitors..

@Wyldanimal - It has been a long time since I tried any racing game, probably not since I had an Amiga, and I do not deny that for many people they are excellent games but I simply have no interest in the whole racing genre or, to a lesser extent, complex "video" games in general prefering instead much simpler games at the Patience and Minesweeper end of the spectrum. If I was 40 or 50 years younger things might be different, but even that is not certain because i was never that much interrested when the first arcade games came out (I remember when Pong was new).

Yea ive tried a number of racing sims like, gran turismo games and the Need For Speed Series. Also some Formula One games in the past. And it allways the same thing i play it for about 5 to 10 minutes start to yawn find it boring and press the quit button. Not for me. But other people will find it great.
Im more of a action type game guy. Battlefield One, Witcher 3, Overwatch. More action.

also, playing an Arcade type driving game with a game pad or Controller,
isn't very sim like..
You have to experience it, sitting in a driving rig, with a steering wheel, full set of pedals, and an H pattern Shifter using the Clutch.
That Combination, with a Good Sim title, that simulates real car handeling and Tire physics.

Man what a rush!

But yeah, you have to be a Car person.
Our Group, we even have to Girls that race with us. They are faster then most of the Guys.
The two girls, join up on the track, and Draft together, to get ahead.
They call themselves, Team Estrogen LOL

"Drafting" is the art of driving very close to the car in front, to make your car, and the one in front go faster,
Through the Air, then if you were by yourself.

"Bump Drafting" is using the Draft from behind, to get enough speed to Physically Bump the car in front.
giving it an Extra Push through the air. This then lets you go that much faster, to give another bump.
eventually, you are then just Pushing the lead car. Do it right, and you both go very Fast. Get it wrong, and One or both cars go spinning out of control.

Anybody remember the original Xbox game, 'Steel Batallion' ? I bought this game along with the necessary massive controller and pedals. At the time, I had already had my Xbox chipped. This game failed to play after level 3 because my chipped Xbox had a button combination that conflicted with the game and crashed it. So I bought another Xbox to make it work :) Then it was awesome!

Pop's post reminded me of this game. It was sort of like a Transformers thing. Giant bi-ped battle tanks... ;)

Cool gif there, Pop :)

Lol I don't care about those games or even the bloated with special effects seizure-inducing transformer movies...I just think the way they transform in real life is totally awesome! :D
