Are any of you having a problem using a debit card?

I have almost 2000 cards, and all of my credit purchases have been through a MasterCard/Visa debit card.

Well, last week I purchased a MasterCard debit card in order to buy 50 credits - but I can't complete any transaction, either through epoch or any other biller.

Are any of you having the same problem?

Yes, I've just encountered this issue the other day as well. All previous purchases were through Visa prepaid gift cards so that there was no paper trail. They do state on the card that they may not be used outside of the US, however that's never been a problem before. If anyone has found any solutions I would be very much appreciative of the information.

same problem here. apparently since march they stopped allowing international charges on prepaid cards.

LRDark, same for me. My debit cards have ALWAYS said "Valid Only In The United States," but I've never had a problem until this last week.

What are you and donttake gonna do?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do - but it may be the end of the line for me, unless Totem figures something out.

I agree, end of the line unless I can find another option or Totem has another way of payment that isn't directly sending cash; I'm not paying through my bank, that's for sure. 😢
I think there may be Visa or Mastercard travel cards that work internationally, but I don't really know much about them.

LRDark, well, I guess I can buy that remastered Dreamboat Annie [Heart] CD, and maybe a Doobie Brothers CD, with the $50 debit card that I was gonna spend here!

The restriction on Paid Debit GIFT Cards in the USA only.
has to do with Money Laundering and Racketeering.
You can Only purchase them with US funds
and the money you place on the GiFT Debit card is only good when spent in the US.

There are International Prepaid Cards, but you loose Anonymity, because you have to register the card under your name.

The Attached Photo is what you Get..
I masked out my numbers...
A visa Card number, and Expiration Data, and a CVV code
that works just like a Visa Card for on-line purchases.

Had to Set up with my Bank account to transfer Funds to the Virtual Card
That took a couple days.
They make a deposit, than withdraw the same amount as the deposit, after you confirm the value.
But only the Funds place into the Virtual Card Account are at risk.

the fee is 3.95%
so if you put $100 on the card it costs you $3.95

That's less than the fee for a Gift card.

Haven't had any issues to date.
Might be an Option for others here.

My only problem is that VG states that a debit card with MasterCard/Visa​​ will be honored, as it has been in the past, and now it is not.

So here I am, with a $50.00 MasterCard debit card, which is absolutely worthless.

And I so love the VG product.

I did so I came to the site not the software. and buy my credits. Try that way.

readyforanything - neither the site nor the software works with my debit card.

Did you use a debit card and, if so ... with which biller?

I've always used epoch, and it's a no-go.

P.S. The other billers aren't allowing a debit card transaction, either.​​​​

Indeed, I have also tried both program and website on each biller, and was declined on two prepaid Visas. Both have adequate funds, and one of which was used previously to buy credits with no issues.

This may be getting ***** for some members, so....

1. PRE-PAID debit cards appear to be the problem, even if they are backed by a major credit card company like VISA or Mastercard. Those are subject to be used for "money laundering". U.S. purchased PRE-PAID debit cards have been monitored and rejected for overseas purchases for quite a while now, depending on where you may be trying to use them for Internet purchases.

2. Debit cards associated with an existing BANK ACCOUNT don't seem to be a problem for VGHD token purchases. I've made token purchases with my VISA debit card associated with my bank checking account with no issues. Just made another $50 token purchase today with it (I used the CCBILL EU selection in the VG GUI). Although it may be up to an individual bank's policies about their allowed debit card transactions, as my bank does require a "pre-approval confirmation" from me for some overseas purchases (like a file hosting site) before they will process it (may require a phone call to my bank first). But I have had no issues with VG token purchases with my bank's VISA debit card.

I have also used pre-paid cards and am having the same problem, apparently it's related to a US restriction.

Celine, unless Epoch has a subsidiary in the US, they can't fix this problem. It seems that you have some long time members ready to walk away over this. The best solution I see is for VG to work with a billing company in the US, but I am open to other idea's. Wyldanimal made a good suggestion but I would have the same problem purchasing that card as I have purchasing credits directly.

That's the reason I posted that you need to set up direct transfers from your Bank Account.
No International issues with that.
I had no problems setting this up, and Only the Funds Put on the Virtual Visa are exposed to the On-line transaction.

Your Virtual Card is limited to just the funds already on the card.
So if you tried to make a Purchase that exceeded the funds, it would be declined.

They Won't tap into your account to try and cover a purchase that exceeds the funds placed in the Virtual Visa.

That makes it a Win Win for me.

The Only exposure to a possible on-line billing scam is the Funds I have in the card.
And if the Virtual card number is compromised, it's discarded, and a new number gets issued.

The Only Issue I can see some members having, is the Direct Bank account transfers.
But heck, I have to do the same to use Paypal, and Google.

So I went to my Local Credit Union.
open an Account. ( Have to Keep $5.00 in it )
No Fee's no Monthly charges.

I use this Account for all my On-line purchase.
I move money into it electronically.
then move the money from there to my Virtual Visa card.

That Gives me Almost Zero Exposure.

Anyone Making On-line Purchases would be Smart to look into doing something Similar.

I've always paid either with my PayPal debit card or with PayPal directly. So this has never been an issue for me.

you need to set up direct transfers from your Bank Account.

I appreciate your suggestions, but the issue is I am not willing to use my Bank Account, either via direct transfers or via a credit card linked to my account. I have used prepaid gift cards for years, now they don't work because the laws have changed and the billers are all outside the US. Paypal could be an option for me but it seems to work for some and not for others.

For me personally, I use either a separate credit card with a small limit on it, so that my exposure is limited.

The alternative for me is to used PayPal and then I can nominate to PayPal which card is to be used behind the scenes and the supplier is none the wiser.

I have no issue with how the transaction displays upon my Visa ststements, but perhaps that is the real iss for some?

Note, that it is not just prepaid cards that seem to be restricted as I couldn't use either a debit or credit card issued by my bank.

Thank you, celine, for your update on the situation; that's pretty much the answer I was expecting due to what I've read on these forums and elsewhere on the internet.

I am curious about what the issues would be with having a biller based in the ​US, as that seems, to me, to be the ideal solution. However, I have next to noknowledge on how something like that works or is set up or any other complications, be it legal, financial, technical, or what have you.

As it is, I will be unable to purchase credits unless a way comes about to either pay with a Visa Prepaid (which I requently recieve as gifts), or to extract the cash from one to add to some sort of international-use card (which seems far from likely). Drawing from my bank account in any way is not viable as the Misses​ watches it closely, and that's a whole other discussion.

But you Have to Register them.

So Unlike a Gift card that has complete Anonymity, ( and the reason for the Money Laundering issues the Laws have been in place since 2012, but are now strickly enforced.)
you can't hide the money used by them, because you have to register it to your Person.
and that money can be tracked to you.

You just can't get these by going to a Walmart..
you get them from a bank or On-line financial institution.

That's an anonymous GIFT card and has restrictions to it's use.
