The most recent shows are not with a good graphic quality. Strange, because it is expected that over the years with the advancement of technology, the quality of this type of entertainment increases, but that's not what's happening here.

An example: In my opinion the show with best quality graphics of all time is Melisa: Sweet Candy (seems to be real, that so good that quality graphics are) that was released on May 28, 2010.

If we compare with the quality of the latest shows (for example Ines: Safari Darling), we note that the quality dropped significantly. So why can not Totem reaching the graphical quality of a show that was released almost three years ago, even though more modern equipments?

"We had several issues. A pretty costly light blew up a few month ago and the replacement one took a while to arrive so we had to film with two smaller lights which had some negative effects on the technical quality of a few shows. Also we noticed that the technical quality of the show was slowly decreasing. It was becoming more and more difficult for post production to chroma key small or shiny objects. There is no "miss use" of the equipment by the photographers as the lights and camera settings don't change. There is no heat issue as we must use cold lights to avoid fans to be able to record clean sound for DB.
We switched the camera fearing the CMOS censor would be getting old,but with no result. We're now replacing all the lights of the studio (we have a ton) because we suspect their intensity have been decreasing. We also have been working for months now on a new camera to film in 4k. We lost a lot of time try to work with the red scarlett and finaly found another one with a better rendering of the image. All post production chain also had to be upgraded and by the end of january we're filming our first show with new lights and 4k camera. This is just to say we are constantly working on quality but it sometimes takes time to reach your screen. You'll be pleased when you see it."

We had a decrease in quality about 3 month ago, mostly due to the lights in the studio that faded over time. It has been fixed since, we're now filming in 1080p (first shows in 1080p will be released soon, with the choice between the current 720p and 1080p) and soon in 4k. Please be specific about the show you're talking about here, could be an older one that we just release now, but we've been investing lots of time, energy and money to upgrade the quality.

even the Clips of my favorite Model Dominika C. are poor Quality and i guess that Show is new. I just noticed that nearly every "new" release has a lower Quality than the Shows i mentioned in the post before. I just good to know that you are working on that issue. thx for the answer.

the new Carmen Gemini Clips were dissapointing too. maybe they are older too.

as i said danielle maye, Olga Barz, Blue Angel (Blue Angel´s performance is awesome anyway) and that had good Quality.

You still haven't mentioned any specific Shows..
such as Card A1024

The card number would be Much more helpful.

Also what are your Screen Specs, Size and Resolution.
Is it a computer monitor, or is it a flat screen TV?

What Zoom setting are you using in the GUI

Here is a post I wrote that helps explain how your Screen affects the Quality of the Animations.
The Most important Screen Spec, is Pixel Density.
It determines How Big is a Single Pixel on your Display.

oh wow. that looks like some kind of science somehow. :-)

im displaying on a laptop screen resolution 1900x 1200 and its zoom is on 130 % right now. its displaying especially the 720 - 900 cards are very clear. Danielle Trixie, the deskbabes Jana Cova and the new VG Jana Cova clips. , just the one i mentioned and everything new lost quality. i think the reason is what Rex just said. I will wait till they ficed it and then maybe purchase again. too bad that the Dominika C. shows are not in very high resolution.

i just want to start and watch and not test around a lot. so when those cards i mentioned are very very clear and the others dont its not an issue with my screen.
and im not the onlöy one who noticed the loss of quality. i will wait a bit :-)

"Whatever you guys did on card A1282 was perfect and that is what we are looking for."

Unfortunately, I wasn't much pleased about the quality of any other cards after that, however, quality is getting better.
  • A1338 really good in quality
  • disappointed with A1367 quality (even in 1080P))

so, there is still inconsistency but it's getting better.

I just thought I'd post this
Totem has created 2189 cards so far for all current products combined.
VirtuaGirl, DeskBabes, Classics, and VirtuaGuy

Out of the 2189 cards that have been reviewed by QA
I counted only 38 cards that had noticeable focus issues, as reported by testing.
about 12 of these cards were due to Actual Video Camera Focus / Technical issues,
The balance were related to encoding / bitrate settings.

So it is a very small percentage of cards.
It has not been and is not an ongoing issue
that we see in QA. Aside from the time period when the lighting and camera issues were present.
This was two weeks worth of shooting, but that is over..

"-disappointed with A1367 quality (even in 1080P)) "

Card a1367 went through QA 30 days ago.
Not one QA Tester reported any focus issues.
Maybe you are not liking the edge softening filter used in the encoder.

When an Image is CUT from the background, the edges can be stair stepped or jagged.
an edge softening filter is applied to reduce these jagged edges.

I re-downloaded a1367 from the US data center.
I do not see any focus issues with that card.

Please continue to report any issues that you find so we can look into them.
thanks

I test on a laptop with 1280w x 800h resolution 12.9"w x 8.25"h
and a dot pitch of .01" or 100 pixels per inch density

on my desktop my screen is 1680w x 1050h resolution 18.5"w x 11.5"h
it has a dot pitch 0f .011" or 90 pixels per inch density

from the two screen captures of a1367 1080p and a1282 720p
(on my laptop)
the a1367 looks better in my opinion.

"Maybe you are not liking the edge softening filter used in the encoder."

  • I agree, new edge softening is taking away that "life like" quality from the cards.
  • This is the "best" and "unique" thing about VGHD.
  • The reason I fell in love with VGHD because it "feels" like a hologram; model is actually there in front of you.
  • I watched card a1367 over and over, it seems/feels like recorded from far and zoomed-in and then transferred in 1080P format. (this is what I do with my youtube videos)

Now, I am afraid to buy cards whether they meet that sharp/clear/hd and most importantly 'life like' quality.

It defiantly looks clear on your screenshot however it looks different on my screen.

I am in the same dilema as sossqq !!

Why are newer cards worse than older ones (even the ones made after the ones that had lighting issues)

I know it depends on how pedantic people are with the quality.

But for me even I find the older shows so much sharper! Like Kathy Moore - solo

So most people are ok with Kathy - Roar
http://www.virtuagirl.com/collectionSet.php?&language=en&cardId=a1361

So here is a comparison between - Kathy Moore - Solo & Kathy - Roar

I have both at 100% zoom and my screen resolution is 1360x768

Keep in mind that the Kathy - Roar shows are in 1080p and Kathy Moore is 720p

The fact that they both look same size is a whole other annoying issue cos the newer shows are smaller in size at 100% compared to older shows.

So if I did a comparison between both shows at 720p & 100% zoom Kathy Roar would look even worse as it would be smaller size... This is really annoying as well. I will post that comparison later..

You can see how in Kathy Roar the skin looks smoothened lacking detail.

And if you look at the edges of the skin against the background they are blurry and smooth not sharp and detailed like Kathy Moore.

"an edge softening filter is applied to reduce these jagged edges. "

WHY!!!!!!

So now i know this is the issue!! Why would you take away detail from the shows and make them blurry and smoothened!

If you look at my screen shots you will see that this not only takes the detail away from the edges where it merges into the background but also other areas like in Kathy roar for example where the bikini ends and her skin starts or like the edges of her nose or eyes.. all blurred cos of this filter!

Please whoever made this decision stop doing it and if possible release these cards without the softening filter.... PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

just so you know, the edge softening filter is not NEW
it's been in use quite a long time.

this is a post to QA members from Totem:

"by Totem - 1526 day(s) ago

We have changed our process and we are trying to find the best one for the new animations. We are trying different filters (like smoothers) to get nicer videos. We still have to find out the best settings (between too smoothed and too many visible pixels), it's not so easy (proccessing animations is really long). "

so 1526 days ago is more then 4 years that Totem has been using filters during the encoding.

On my screens they seem to look okay.
the sample photo from sossqq does look softer than what I see on my screen.

@Wyldanimal

All we are asking is to carry out our suggestion to developers instead of defending it.
That is my main purpose of posting, and forums. I was reading earlier post and people do not like the current settings of the cards. I do not want future cards with this quality, and no one will..it is just matter of time.

please take it seriously before it gets out of hand. ==)

I have a faith in you :D

Is there a chance the graphics adapter may be smoothing out this effect more?
I'd certainly like to see some kind of 'before and after' shots of the filters if possible...

It's not a matter of defending it.
It's investigating what's the possible reason for, some members seeing a much softer image than others.

There are almost a dozen QA members, (not all of them review the same card)
so that's quite a few different configurations.

If QA are not seeing it, and Totem isn't seeing it,
Then we have to figure out why it's noticeable on some members than others.

Case in point, the difference between my screen capture which looks good compared to your much Softer screen capture.

I was also pointing out that the use of filters while encoding the clips is NOT NEW.
Totem has been doing it for a long time.

Without knowing the video card and monitor info,
Screen resolution, Width and Height of the Monitor
It's hard to tell if it is system specific, clip specific, or something else.

I personally find this *****. Click on the image to view it in full size. This is what it looks like on my computer.. I've tried downloading it in ALL the sizes.. 720, 1080, 3k.. it all looks like *****. And this is the most recent VIP card.. so a new card, not an old one.. I like so many others, have also stopped purchasing credits and cards, because each one that seems to come out is SO MUCH WORSE than the previous one!! I have a brand new 2013 laptop, 1366x768 res, the big screen shot was taken at 100%, the smaller one at 40%. I know this is a KNOWN issue but when is totem going to fix this?? No matter what res I download my girls in, all the newer cards look like crap and are all grainy.. and please don't tell me it's my computer because older cards, like one has mentioned before, Melissa in Sweet Candy was the BEST resolution download I've ever had with this software, everything was SUPER real, SUPER clear, like she was REALLY live, on my desktop! But now.. ever since this smoothing edges crap came out, all the software looks like *****. Is totem planning on going back to the cards like Melissa's Sweet Candy and using whatever they were doing when they made THOSE cards and applying them to cards now? If not.. I'm afraid their going to be out of business pretty damn quick.

You can see the noticeable difference between this Melissa sweet candy res and the new Gina Devine Peach Bellini res. Just wanted to put that out there so people could compare the two and see why this is so upsetting..
  • sorry I wasn't aware about the no nudity posting in forums.. I can't edit my first post so if there's someone that can that would be appreciated.. thanks*

@ JuicEeLM

It's good to see people stepping up to raise this issue.
This should be their 1st priority than anything else. Because of this, I had no choice but to cancel my subscription.

I would rather see an ugly girl with uglier sweater in a decent quality than some porn star on this crappy quality.

In trying to learn more about the decreasing quality of cards, I found this thread, which is a few months older than the one I started. It seems that the quality has actually gotten worse since the last post in this thread (not sure when the cards were actually filmed vs. released).

For me any dips in quality from show 1200 till 1394 (I haven't noticed that big of a difference certainly not enough for me to want to delete them), that dip in quality is far less noticeable than the dip in quality in shows 1395 through the present. Some of the shows in the 1400s are barely better than the shows before 650.

I've deleted everything from my collection from 1395 Charlotta - Mayan Riviera through 1454 Vanda Lust - Cannes. For now, I'm keeping 1455 Cayenne Klein - Tempting Tartan through the present because there seems to be a increase in quality, but it's still noticeably under the standard that was set from 650 through 1394, particularly the first half of that range.

To me, I find it hard to believe that this is simply due to just a softening filter. It's not just an issue with sharpness. In the 1400s, some of the close up shots are physically smaller (particularly the cards for Katy Angel and Melody Powers).

Reading the responses, I'm having a hard time figuring out if there's a recognition on Totem's part that show quality is dropping. To me, it seems like there's enough anecdotal evidence that it is between this thread and the one that I started. In his response, Rex says that there was a drop in quality but that since has been fixed. His answer seems to infer that there should be no drop in quality in the shows that have been filmed in 1080, but pretty much all of the shows that have the biggest drop in quality (as far as I can tell) are 1080 shows. Is Totem essentially saying that there should be no drop in quality in the 1400s other than Katy Angel, which were acknowledged as having technical problems?

Also, for what it's worth, I'm running a Mac Retina Display Macbook Pro 15" with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. Resolution 2880 x 1800.

I'm redownloading shows 1395 through 1454 to see if I'm seeing anything differently. I've downloaded all of Charlotta's cards at this point, and it still definitely seems like there's a drop compared to the cards that others have identified as the height of quality (690 - Melisa Sweet Candy, for example). One thing I'm noticing is that the color of these shows seems washed out.

And to be as clear as possible, I'm not saying all the cards in the 1395 through 1454 range are awfully bad. While I feel that they are inferior to the best cards out there, some of them are still good enough to keep. The ones that I do think are awfully bad though are all of the cards for Melody Powers and Katy Angel.
