The VirtuaGirl application stores its working data in two folders: data and models. Both have lots of subfolders. The data folder contains control information. The models folder contains the playable clips of the cards you've purchased. The majority of the subfolders in each of these two folders are named after a card and contain data for that card only. In addition to the cards you've purchased, there will also be folders for every card demo that has passed through your carrousel. The data folder also contains a number of special purpose files and folders needed to make the application function.

GOOD NEWS: If you damage or lose any of the contents of either the data or models folders, the VG application can rebuild them, but you may have to right-click the Synchronize with server button on the Advanced window of the Settings tab. Depending on the size of your collection, rebuilding could take a lot of time and there may be shortcuts available. If you have a problem in this regard, ask for help on this forum.

BEGINING ADVICE:

1. Unless you are critically short of space on your default drive, leave the folders where the application put them.
2. Don't try to change the contents of either folder until you are comfortable in using the basic features of the application.
3. It's OK to examine the files. Many of them will make sense when opened as simple ASCII files. Some are XML files and will make more sense if you have an XML reader. A few are binary files and can take days to decode. I know, I've spent days trying.
4. Keep an eye on the size of the Models folder. It will grow dramatically as you add to your collection. When it gets too large, you'll need to move it somewhere else. The VG application makes moving the models folder easy, but there are some tricks. Ask on the forum if you're not sure how to proceed.

[User-name] will be different on everyone's computer
the slashes are all reversed here (editing in this forum is tricky)

Caution to moderators:
editing this post will remove all of the slashes if they are replaced with the more correct backslashes

I said earlier that "each card has a unique 4-digit number ranging 0001 to 9999"

This isn't quite true. The same number might be used again in future, adding another character to the end to make it unique.
