After reading this thread I got really interested in the subject and decided to investigate further, so I paid a visit to someone I know whom I knew might have some real information. According to a psychology professor I'm friends with (stopped by, brought lunch, picked his brain), the visual attraction of a female to by male is dependent on many factors (and they don't always apply). The thing they have in common is that they are many are generally believed to be "genetically hard-coded" into the male brain or developed at a young age and most are being found to be indicators of "fertility".
The most commonly recognized factors include the following:
Hip to Waist Ratio, (Waist/Hip), ideal = 0.7 (subconscious Female Body Language, like the "Pelvic Tilt" and "Rolling Hips" accentuate the HWR). Something to note is that there are actually two HWR measurements, actual HWR is consistent worldwide and "Frontal" HWR which is a flat measurement and varies culturally (0.7 in Western cultures, 0.6 in Eastern cultures and 0.8 in African and South American cultures).
Torso to Leg Ratio, (Leg/Torso), ideal = 1.4 (One big reason why high heels exist).
Bilateral Symmetry, mismatches between right and left sides reduce overall attractiveness, the important parts include facial features, breasts and bone structures (The plastic surgery industries bread and butter).
Body Mass Index, 20.0 is commonly deemed peak attractiveness, with a sharp drop off as it goes below 17 and a slow drop off as it goes above 25 (This closely follows the research results done by the medical community into female fertility, which rapidly drops below 17.0 and gradually drops above 25.0)
Body shape: Hourglass Figure, Linear Figure, Upper Figure, Upper Middle Figure, Lower Middle Figure, Lower Figure (This list consists of only shapes commonly considered as mainstream attractive).
- Hourglass is least common, and commonly perceived as most attractive.
Balanced Shapes
Hourglass Figure - Bust and Hips within 2 inches, Hip to Waist Ratio less than .75 (VGHD examples - Lea Tyron, Felina, Angel Kiss).
Linear Figure - Bust and Hips within 2 inches, Hip to Waist Ratio greater than .75 (VGHD examples - Melisa, Adriana M, Viki).
Top Heavy Shapes
Upper Figure - Bust greater than Hips by 3 or more inches, Hip to Waist Ratio less than .75 (VGHD examples - Ashley Robbins, Eufrat, Shabba).
Upper Middle Figure - Bust greater than Hips by 3 or more inches, Hip to Waist Ratio greater than .75 (VGHD examples - Tess).
Bottom Heavy Shapes
Lower Middle Figure - Hips greater than Bust by 3 or more inches, Hip to Waist Ratio greater than .75 (VGHD examples - Kayla, Saraliz, Natali Blond).
Lower Figure - Hips greater than Bust by 3 or more inches, Hip to Waist Ratio less than .75 (VGHD examples - Jenni Gregg, Lorena, Mogane).
The combination of different BMIs and a Body Shape or different Body Shapes and a similar BMI results in different perception of attractiveness.
- 1st Example both Viki and Melisa are Linear Figure shape, Viki with a estimated BMI of 17.2 looks very different from Melisa at a BMI of 19.7.
- 2nd Example both Eufrat (18.0) and Morgane (17.9) have similar BMIs, Eurfrat With a Upper Figure shape and Morgane with a Lower Figure shape.
Other Miscellaneous Factors
Hair Length - Long Hair is generally perceived to be more attractive than short hair.
Apparent age - Generally a younger (post-pubescent) apparent age more attractive.
Age difference between male and female - Generally, at younger ages the attractive range difference is smaller (1 to 2 years), as males age the attractive range increases, however, current studies are being done now to examine the current cougar/cub phenomena.
Breast Sag - Less sag is generally perceived as more attractive, this is an indicator of increased age.
Softer Facial Features - Softer, rounder facial features seemed to be preferred over sharper, more linear ones.
Common Features (sometimes referred to as "same good", or as "strange bad" factor) - The tendency to prefer women with "normal" facial and body features more than women with "exotic" features, however, the "normal" template is believed to develop at a young age (initially during the age in which face perception is set and/or during prepuberty and puberty) and is be effected to some extent by culture and environment.
Exotic Factor (sometimes referred to as "strange good" factor) - A very common phenomena based on Softer Facial Structures and Common Features, in which certain exotic features are are found more desirable than the common features (sometimes effected by cultural and environment). Examples of this can be seen as a preference to features dissimilar to those in the "normal" set, such as skin tone, eye shape, etc.* This can be seen in the common "Western" attraction to "Eastern" (Asiatic) features and the renewed trend among women in Asiatic countries with heavy "Western" influence to undergo plastic surgery to remove the epicanthal fold, in effect altering the eye shape to conform to a more Caucasian eye shape.
Nipple Contrast - General tendency to favor a contrast between skin color and aerola.
Erect and/or Visible Nipple - Found to drastically increase the perceived attractiveness of a woman.
That's all for now, and remember the saying different strokes for different folks does apply.
