The external hard disk drives I've seen and have can range from 1 terabytes to 8 terabytes. Some may be less or more, but that's the general range. Actually, the external drive I have my iStripper files on is around 8 terabytes. I do have a few other things on that drive though.
3 TB should be enough now, but I'd buy a 4TB to eliminated worries about future growth. My collection of about 2000 cards with all cards at the highest resolution takes up 1.65 TB. Both my models and data folders are on that drive, but the data folder is only 3.31 GB.
To be honest, it would be false economy to just buy the HDD that matches your current need, Totem is always increasing the detail of their cards, so the file sizes will get bigger.
I currently use a 4 TB external HDD for the collection, but as one drive (from two separate PC's) seams to have failed, I will be replacing that one with a 6 TB HDD, but your decision to go with an 8 TB is a sound one.
