this is a nice thread Oquijan
I hope it will continue to grow and reveal interesting things.
BTW i wonder if there is a thread somewhere listing all the bloopers that happen in the shows. Most often it is problems with removing the panties. That would be very interesting and entertaining too. I find it good definitly that Totem doesn't cut them out.

Thanks, Starryk. It is an entertaining task. ;)

Yup, Cold, i made that thread. It has some interest in this thread also, so i wanted to bring it over.

As for the bloopers, i have seen many, most of them related to the girls having troubles to remove their panties due to the shoes and plataforms. I saw a recent event like that in Ting's Mahjong party. One of my favourites, though, it's in Marie's Prison Guard, when she turned around way to hard while grabbing the pole and she almost felt. She barely managed to stop laughing. Oh, i just love Marie. ;)

Also, until recently, Rex's user name was TotemRex24.

On December 23, 2008, it was announced a partnership between Totem and Playboy for promotional reasons. There was the intention to try to bring some playmates for shows in VG, but that never happened. I don't know if that was good or not.

But in that far, far away December 23, 2008, Rex said something that is interesting to quote: "We have no intention to turn VirtuaGirl is something different. We had guest stars in the past and we'll continue to do so here and there without changing the spirit of VirtuaGirl :)"

Of course, the spirit was indeed changed latter, but that's another history.

This was a competition to design a Myspace/VGHD page. It has the links to the actual pages that were set up. Some good stuff.

Many thanks for the info, @jimbo38. ;)

I was about to place this about contest, so it was a fortunate coincidence your post.

Once upon a time, Totem runned contest for the community amusement and

for promotional purposes.

Free tickets were always the prize for the winners.

The first contest i could track was the " I LOVE VIRTUAGIRL! You-tube

Contest", on February 26, 2008. The contest was about to create an

original video that depicted VirtuaGirl running on the desktop. Then

place the video in YouTube and get the most views to win the prize: 50

tickets.

There was a "User's Comment Contest", to get user's comments about

VirtuaGirl to publish on the home page of the website.

There was a couple of quiz contests, that paid 10 and 15 tickets to the

winners.

Another one to create an original MySpace page about VirtuagirlHD, that

paid 50 tickets to the winner.

The contest that had the best prize, a 100 tickets, was about

submitting VG videos wherever they might fitted in and get the most

views to earn the prize. Seems that Totem took a lot of time to

announce the winner and the community got unrest. Even though Rex asked

for ideas for new 100-tickets contests, the community at that time

seemed to be little interested. There was never another contest like those.

Last contest was one of the quiz ones, on November 19, 2008.

As a marginal note, sometimes Totem awarded free tickets to people

willing to colabotare on beta tests of the software.

Ever felt like the ideas and suggestions you place at the ideas forum are not ever considered, or ever read by the Team? I dunno. But if the Team's participation in that forum is of any indication, we might find that in the early days of the forum the feedback was a lot better than recently.

I went to the first 10 pages of posts in the Ideas forum to dig answers, comments, or any trace of Totem interest in the proposals. I've found 38 of those, not counting aditional comments by the Team in the same thread, among 300 threads opened by the users. That's one comment by Totem every 7.8 users threads.

Then i dug into the latest 10 pages in the ideas forum. I've found 8 participations by Totem in 300 threads opened by the users. That's one comment by Totem every 37.5 users threads.

I don't know if those numbers reflect how much truly the Team read or care for the users ideas and suggestions, but they clearly seemed to be more present and interested in the old days than nowadays.

I should go there and propose them to show more awareness about the users ideas...

Uh, never mind.

For those who might be wondering, here's a picture of the, by then, Totem's new studio, posted by Rex on March 24, 2009. Don't know if it still look like this, but here it appears to be cozy.

@Oquijan,

Over time Totem have posted a number of pics of their studios, both temporary and "state of the art" as they were at the time.

What made it really interesting though was that was usually during a shoot of a particular model and there were often candid shots.

These days we see litle of that because the staff are busy doing other things.

Now I know there is critism of that and low staff numbers etc, its a valid concern and one that should be raised. However, know as I do a few of the people involved, I can assure you that they really do try to be across all the messsages, its just posting is a big ask.

The mods will try to take the major issues forward on the collective behalf, its what we are paid those untold thousands (don't I wish) for :).

Still if we could unlock the archive as an incentive for VIP members, then that would be a VERY good thing......

Thanks for the info, Cartref. ;)

Not particularly trying to be judgmental here, though. Just adding numbers that might be or not relevant in any given aspect, but they are there and they are kinda interesting.

Now, if you could disclose about that excellent salaries the mods are getting... ;)

Time for one of the most interesting histories i've found in the VG forum. I'm very thankful to DIDGEDRUM for bring it to my attention.

It's very likely that the girl that has caused more excitation in this site is not one you'll find ranked among the top ten in the models chart. In fact, no model here had ever come any close to be as friendly, participative, genuine, funny and hot as hell as this woman. This phenomenon was not a Vgirl, but an user: smoothiepie.

Pure sweet chocolate babe, made her first post on May 23, 2008, including the pic i'm placing here. Yup, it's her, and among her presentation words: "I've tried to keep my language as toned down as possible, considering I can get as freaky and as nasty as they come." Something special was about to happen.

From day one, she was an open book about herself, inviting the users to meet her better through messages and even mails, she quicky became the most popular user among the crowd. Her posts were always humorous, genuine, clever and sexually explicit. The usual fistful of uptight ***** tried to get in her way, but her ever growing fanbase shielded her from the pesky attempts to cage this ***** songbird.

But the open forum was a restraining shirt for this lady, so many users offered to donate her tickets to help her to achieve the platinum status. For that purpose, on June 10, 2008 v1now started the thread "helping smoothiepie go platinum". They convinced Rex at that time to make the transfer of tickets to her account and even Rex donated some.

It took her sometime, despite the generosity of her many friends, to gather the 100 cards to reach platinum, cause she was not complacent about the shows, she was a former stripper, and surely many of us can relate now to this post of her, dated on May 27, 2008: "I have to agree with many of you, that there needs to be more diversity. Latino, Asian, a few more black women. We could use some more redheads too. And for heaven's sakes, please get some more gorgeous girls who have beautiful BIG NATURAL tits. One last thing, more girls who can actually dance. Who know how to work their hips and shake their asses. Some skilled pole acrobatics would be a wonderful plus. Every free girl, who I have disabled, is because of her inability to move the way a woman should. Uncoordinated, clumsy looking, non-sensual dancing and expressions, does none of us any good. Am I right, fellas? Only a few who I've seen, can work their bodies and the camera. Eye contact with the camera is paramount! That's what makes each guy feel like you're dancing just for him. Amandine, Denisa K, Miss Roxx, & Viki, all terrific with their moves and eye contact. There could be more, I haven't seen them all yet. Plus, a smile never ***** anyone. VGHD is good. Make it SPECTACULAR!!!"

In the mean time, as the impatient crowd waited for her rise as a platinum, she managed to encourage other female members that were flying under the radar to post in the forum and to be themselves. The result was the beggining of the most entertaining and sexually arousal period i've ever encountered in here. smoothiepie, flyingwhelshman and funBoy (despite the user name, a she), made a delicious trio of female posters back then.

Finally, smoothiepie jumped over the golden status into the platinum. On June 26, 2008, Her thread "CUM AND GET ME BOYS…AND GIRLS!!!" started with a joyful: "THE WAIT IS OVER. NOW IT'S TIME TO PLAY!!!"

And, man, she played. You have to look for yourself. It was hot, but when the other girls entered to play, the crowd was amazed and delighted.

Stanzeflasher, on June 28, 2008: "over 2 millions members..but only 3 girls making fun. Thank you Smoothipie, thank you Funboy, Thank you Flyingwelshman. Come on new babes, come on...!!! welcome...!!!"

For those who wanted to know more about smoothipie, she posted a lot about her in the thread: "Many Are Very Curious About Me. So This Will Be The Place To Find Out More". (Ever saw a Vgirl been so nice?)

Still, the main event was about to happen, when smoothiepie inaugured her thread: "SMOOTHIEPIE'S PIC OF THE DAY". Obviously, the idea was to place a pic daily for the pleasure of the, by the time, huge fanbase that worshiped her. I've been told that the next smoothiepie's pic was the most expected event of the day by many.

But something happened to cause turmoil among the ranks.

The controversy began with a nude picture that flyingwelshman posted of herself featuring a dildo or a vibrator (pic is not longer available). smoothiepie posted one of herself with another toy with the shape of a male's instrument. The smoothiepie pic was quickly removed by Rex, but the flyingwelshman's wasn't.

smoothiepie felt victim of a double rules standard and menaced to leave the forum for good. The voices were raised as usual with the most diverse colours of opinions that i won't post in here, but fairness, taste, puritanical views and even racism where some of the main topics.

The issue lead Rex to make a post about the rules of what can be posted, on July 01, 2008: "We have to comply with the 18 U.S.C. 2257 Record-Keeping Requirements Compliance Statement which requires us to (among other things) keep record of identifications documents for every picture featuring depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct. Nudity pictures appearing on this site are exempt from the requirements set forth in 18 U.S.C. 2257 and C.F.R. 75. because said depictions are not depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct.

To sum it up, and as we don't have the identification documents of members posting here, you can post nudity but no sexually explicit conduct at all. The dildo used in the picture I removed a few days ago was clearly crossing that line."

The waters calmed down then, but the ultimate result was that smoothiepie's thread ended up filled with a lot of stuff and was closed.

On July 02, 2008, smoothiepie posted the thread: "A New Beginning: SMOOTHIEPIE'S PIC OF THE DAY", with a lot of hot stuff for the pleasure of her followers.

The last picture posted by smoothiepie in that thread was on Jul 11, 2008.

And for a very nice reason, as on July 29, 2008, smoothiepie announced that she was pregnant.

The last post from this amazing woman occurred on August 25, 2008, just to say hi and, as today, farewell.

That's all folks. Hope it was interesting for all, especially for those who had an active part in this history.

Oh yeah...Those were the days....
Nice job of historical reporting.
Smoothie sure was the erotic muse & inspired some..er inspiring erotic writing in me..(even snuck in some fast connection at my work computer "Smoothie live nude action"....ahhh)
She is a true Renaissance Woman!
She once said: "I meet all these incredible people on line who really have no idea how incredible they are, how much fun they are, & I love just mirroring back to them, in my way, just how great & fun they are!"
FlyingWewlshman too was amazing...She blossomed with smoothie's warm & sexy attention in off thread connections,
into a freer more complete person. Freeing herself in these threads helped a lot.
Smoo's pregnancy & FWM's marriage carried them away & deeper into "Real life"-
A poignant hooray!
Oh....if you want to see flyingwelshman in her pornstar persona go to freeones.com & look up Kaila Page...Mmmmm..some nice vids...especially the ***** ones...very...er...complete!
All part of a VGHD that was!

VGHD usually has me either hunting & peckeing....or cunting & peckering!
Cullering inside the lines is a talent that needs to be cultivated!
But as me ol' granpappy usta say..."A pink blotch'll getcher thread posting read better'n a Red Post'll get rid o' pink blotchs".(HUH!??)
I'm sure Smoothie would agree! (That keeps this post "thread relevant")

Thanks guys for revealing those treasures.
