has anybody had any problems using a debit card for purchases?

Nope. I use my Maestro debit card to purchase tickets and subscription (when I had it) and all was fine.

No problems here.

OK thanks. tried using my credit card and it wouldn't work so i thought id try my debit card instead

Some CC companies do not allow purchases on the net so maybe that's what happened ... just a wild guess though.
I haven't had any problems at all with credit or debit.

A lot of us don’t have VIsa, Mastercard or whatever. No credit card means no credit card debt. Debit cards work just fine, and if your account does not have sufficient funds, well then no purchase and you gotta do without.

@looneyluffa - there are some kinds of cards (essentially anonymous pre-paid and gift cards if I remember correctly) that will not work for overseas purchases due to money laundering laws.
