I do not have iStripper installed on this OS. I have it on another Windows PC.

On the Linux Mint machine, if I enter the name of one of your performers in a search engine on Firefox, she appears dancing bottom right.

This happened today with Francys Belle but I have noticed it with other performers.

Of course, I have no control of her. I cannot stop her routine without closing the webpage. Similarly, I cannot make any selections re. background etc.

All the same I thought it was curious that iStripper would run like this in Linux Mint (20.3).

What search engine is it that you are using?

iStripper has a sales tool that displays the Models dancing in the corner by the Clock.

So I'm wondering if the search tool is Finding this Sales tool and doing an Automatic preview.
Which then activates the Model to perform.

I'm running iStripper on Linux Ubuntu with the help of PlayOnLinux which is just a "more user friendly"
frontend for Wine.

Without having any further information about your own personal Linux History,
but you might know about it, that every Linux Distribution is not the same, even if most people on the Net,
say it would be all the same. For further information follow this Link,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_distributions

and this Infographic.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Linux_Distribution_Timeline.svg

I will not go to deep into all that historical stuff, but you can roughly say that Debian is the Mother of all
the Linux Distributions, more or less and roughly said.

But they have all one thing in common, they are using a centralized Package/Software repository
located on a centralized Server, running and maintained from the Distributor of your Linux Distribution.

The one for Ubuntu is Mark Shuttleworth the Founder and CEO of Canonical.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Shuttleworth

and the one for Linux Mint is Clement Lefebvre.

https://linuxmint.com/teams.php

Mint is a Community only project while behind Ubuntu is a Company with a financial Background.

Ubuntu is using the Package repository from Debian but they are modifying most of these Packages to
achieve a more beginner friendly and best possible first use experience.

https://packages.ubuntu.com/en/

Linux Mint is using, no i should say copy and pasting the Package repository from Ubuntu
including their own Package repository on top of that.

http://packages.linuxmint.com/

http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=victoria

Which means i can't tell you the difference about using PlayOnLinux on Mint, while i'm using Ubuntu
now since July 2009, and i never used a different one.

Except for a few other installations in a Virtual Machine like for example different Derivates of Ubuntu to test
another Desktop Environment as well as Debian, Arch Linux and Antergos, now known as EndeavourOS.

https://www.fosslinux.com/14859/antergos-linux-project-has-been-discontinued.htm

https://endeavouros.com/

Running iStripper in Linux Ubuntu worked pretty well during all these years so far, if you can live without the
Desktop mode, not being able to listen to your imported Music, and not being able to Download the Bonus
Videos in the highest Resolution.

But for all that i always had a workaround, like for example using a separate Musik Player/Software combined
with my Multimedia Keys on my Keyboard, or using the Website to Download the Bonus Videos
in the highest Resolution.

This was all what was coming in my mind so far, if you have further questions let me know,
and i'm trying to Answer them after my best knowledge and believe.

Thanks to both!

I use Google usually. The idea that there's some kind of sales tool would explain the young ladies. I have the install .exe in my downloads, so maybe that is the source of the tool?

I installed PlayOnLinux. It installs on a virtual disk (C:) I can get into the program but there are problems:

1. I seem to have to re-install each time. When the Run routine asks for a link, I'm not sure what to use - vghd.exe produces an error. So I have to use the main iStripper .exe and reinstall. I don't think that can be right.

2. I can login but I cannot reinstall my collection. The button is stuck on NO and can't be moved to YES with cursor, Tab, or Y.

3. A young lady does some of her routine, but the visuals flash at times and are jerky. I use 2560x1440 res. display.

I'd be grateful for advice. Seems I'm almost there.

I'm not sure if i can understand you correctly for Point Nr. 1, but the more i'm trying to understand it
the more it ***** me. Maybe you can be more precise on that, this would be great.

And for point 2 and 3 i will keep you posted.

To Point Nr. 2.

First of all i always synchronized my Data Directory with rsync since i started to modify
the iStripper Client wit Custom images, Skins and Fullscreen Scenes.

I talked about the whole "rebuild Collection Process" here,
https://www.istripper.com/de/forum/thread/36697/4?post=759857
You are not allowed to see this topic or access data relative to this topic
including the use of rsync, and here is a short recap for it.

  • Install the Software and start it.
  • Go to Settings, tick the "Advanced Settings" Box.
  • Make all adjustments step by step within the Settings in first place.
  • Copy back your Animation Files (iStripper Shows) from your Backup.
  • Set up your Data Path as next.
You are not allowed to see this topic or access data relative to this topic
If you have more than one Location for your Animation Files let me know,
because then i have to go into more Details how to get this done in POL.
  • Go to Settings and click now on "Rebuild Collection"
  • You will see that the iStripper Logo in your Taskbar will turn into a spinning circle.
  • Wait for it until you can see the iStripper Logo in your Taskbar again.
  • If you go now to "My Collection" you should see all your Shows, including an Update
    Sticker on all of them.

I described how to get rid of them behind the Link i have given you.

Unfortunately and at least on this POL/iStripper Setup there is a small downside for this method
which i wasn't aware of it before, but i will come to that later in a separate comment.
The button is stuck on NO and can't be moved to YES with cursor, Tab, or Y.
Tab or Y is usually used in an NCurses environment,

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ncurses

and i can't recall that it was ever used within the iStripper Software since 2018 at least.

But i have to admit i'm missng this Installation method for Ubuntu, since Canonical removed
this special ISO Image from their Servers with Ubuntu 18.10. Because in compare to the Graphical
Ubiquity Installer it never crashed and never made any problems.

So like i said NCurses was never a thing for me within the iStripper Client.

    To Point Nr.3.

You can see these Visual flashes in the Video i have provided for you.
For now you can swith to GPU rendering within the Settings to avoid this.
But i still can't recommend that,
    https://www.istripper.com/de/forum/thread/36697/4?post=759913

If you go to the iStripper web site, scroll down to the bottom of the front page you will see a link to "Affiliates". If you go there and look at what tools are availble to iStripper affiliates you will find one which is described as

    Tools / Animated Popping Models

One of our most innovative tool! Get those girls popping directly on your site, on top of all the rest.

I am pretty sure that this is behind what you are seeing.

This is the most comprehensive Guide i could find,

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKaEGoBWVFM

and by using the option "install a non-listed program" which you have probably used before already,
it creates another virtual C: Drive in your Home Directory, and Path to it is this one here.
    /home/username/PlayOnLinux's virtual drives/
The Folder "PlayOnLinux's virtual drives" is a so called "Symbolic link" and here is some more info about that.

    https://www.cbtnuggets.com/blog/certifications/open-source/linux-hard-links-versus-soft-links-explained

But i think the Guy in the Video should answer all the rest of your questions.

Now to that "small downside" i have talked about before.

Prior the iStripper Client Version 1.2.376 i have used this "rebuild Collection process" several times already,
and aslo for testing purposes to makes sure that it will work every time the same way, just in case.

The issue was that some of the Shows which are only provided in 1080p resolution,
were crashing the Client with a specific Clip during Fullscreen Mode.

I loaded this specific Clip into the "Next Playing area" to reproduce/Bruteforce the error,
    and it was happening again.

From what i recall it was the case for two Shows from Little Caprice "Into Temptation" and "Red Is My Colour".

After the installation and rebuild Collection process with the Client Version 1.2.376 it was also the case and
the first time for a 3K Show, and the one was from Paula Shy "Provocatrix".

But the solution was not that far away for it.

  • I deleted the Show in the Software by using the Trash Can icon on the Card image.
  • I navigated to the location with the Animation Files to delete the whole Folder for the Show,
which is still there even you delete the Show in the Software.
  • Back to the Software and using the "Synchronize with Server" Button in the Settings.
  • Then i Downloaded the Show again, and that specific Clip nor the whole Show was not crashing
    the Software any more.

    I watched the YouTube video.

To cut a long story short, I can get into iStripper reliably in Linux Mint, but I cannot rebuild my collection.
None of my 49 shows are active.

I know about Settings and the 'advanced' tick box.

The sync button on left doesn't do anything. When I click the rebuild button I get this.

    https://web.tresorit.com/l/DYylq#I3T6Mkex51-ZzyvqNIElHw

    I cannot activate YES.

I'd be grateful for further advice. Thanks!

A final post. Thanks to all for advice.

I can get the software running in Linux Mint - sort of - inconsistently.

I managed to download two of my collection. One of them runs in an unmoveable screen in the bottom right quarter of the screen. I can make this full screen but then I cannot go back! The other young lady does not run - instead a different one pops up.

The '*****' hot key does not work.

All in all, the program runs well on my old W10 machine. But this means I must power it up specially which is a bit of a hassle.
It would have been nice to have iStripper available on my everyday Linux PC.

The sync button on left doesn't do anything. When I click the rebuild button I get this.
Open the POL Software, and leave iStripper closed.

Highlight with a single click the istripper Logo in it.

Then click on configure in the top right (that big Cogwheel Button).

A new Window will open, in there switch to the Tab Wine.

Click on the Configure Wine Button, the first option left next to the Reg editor.

In that new Window, switch to the Tab Disks or Drives (not sure how it's translated in English).
Then show me a Screenshot from that particular Window with the Disks Tab selected.

Then close both single Windows again, start iStripper and go to Settings,
scroll down to Data, ckick on "Change Directory" and make a Screenshot from this Window.

As last tell me the Path on your physical Disk (within your Mint Machine) to all your
    Animation Files (iStripper Shows).

Also and unfortunately it seems that my Internet Provider has some
trouble to keep me connected again, because this was now the second
time today that i had a full connection failure.

I can't tell if i will have a stable connection all day long,
like it was the case yesterday, so i have to sit it out
like many times before until they have fixed it
on their side, just to let you know.

Not a problem, the information from your Screenshots is good enough for me
to prepare something, as always i will keep you posted.

    In the meantime,
One of them runs in an unmoveable screen in the bottom right quarter of the screen.
and like mentioned before, the Desktop mode is not a recommendation to watch your Shows,
even if you have switched to GPU rendering.

And to exit the Full Screen mode just simply click your left Mouse Button,
or the Escape Key on your Keyboard.

First of all your default File manager in Mint is Nemo, and you have to make sure to configure your
Address bar, to make the full File Path visible, instead of using the Breadcrumb Navigation.

I hope these Links help you to do that, because that is important for our next steps.

    https://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2015/10/basic-guide-for-nemo-file-manager.html

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff78iE7q2sE&t=685s

As next, please do not change anything any more within your Wine Configuration Window,
underneath the Drives Tab, this looks all fine for now.

Next, here is how to find the Location to your Animation Files,
and you can do this while iStripper is running, it doesn't matter for this Task.

Bring up the POL Window, highlight again with your Mouse the iStripper Logo,
but it might be already highlighted.

Now pay attention to the left side in that Window, and you should see several options
including "Open a directory" with a Folder icon left next to it, please click on that.

Nemo should open now a new Window and should take you to this Location here,
    /home/howard/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/vghd/drive_c/users/howard/Local Settings/Application Data/vghd/bin/
and you are now in the "bin" Folder of your iStripper installation.

Click now in your Address bar in Nemo and delete the last "/" and "bin" in it, and press Enter.
Now you are in your "vghd" Folder
    /home/howard/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/vghd/drive_c/users/howard/Local Settings/Application Data/vghd/
and you should see only three Folders which are "bin" "data" and "models".

According to your second Screenshot your Animation Files are stored in "models" and will be always
    downloaded to this Location.

Also and from what i can see on your second Screenshot too, you have plenty of space on that Disk (4 TB)
and it seems you don't have a separate Root partition on your Mint installation,
but there is no need, at least for now! to investigate this further.

You can leave everything like it is, but there was a big Server Failure from Totem in late 2018 or early 2019
(not sure any more it's been a while) and everyone lost the Access to their Collections, including myself
while i had all my Animation Files stored in there as well.

After everything got fixed from the Team i moved my Collection to another Location on my Disk,
and since that i never ever lost the Access to my Collection any more independent from any Server
issues on the side of Totem.

I will leave it up to you, but in any case here is how to do it on your own machine.

You can leave iStripper open for this Task now.

Create yourself a new Directory inside your Home Directory, and you can give any Name you want,
but for the Fact that Linux is Case sensitive! for Files and Folder names, we will choose

    "is_data"

without the Quotes, all small letters and with an underscore instead of a blank character.

So the new Location for your Shows is now,
    /home/howard/is_data/
please double check that in your Address bar in Nemo after you have created that Directory.

Now open two Windows of Nemo or you can also open a new Tab in it,
to see the following two Locations at the same time.
    /home/howard/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/vghd/drive_c/users/howard/Local Settings/Application Data/vghd/models/
    and
    /home/howard/is_data/
Copy and paste! now all the Folders form your /vghd/models/ Location to your new created Folder "is_data"
    in your Home Directory.
Once that is done, you can delete all the Folders within,
    /home/howard/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/vghd/drive_c/users/howard/Local Settings/Application Data/vghd/models/
but do not delete the "models" Directory itself.

Now go back to iStripper -> Settings and scroll down to the Data Section again,
to click on "Change Directory" once more.

Click on that Trash Can Icon to delete your current Path, and click on the Apply Button to confirm your action.
After that iStripper will immediately restart, be aware this might take a while depending on your CPU speed.
So no matter how long it takes, you just have to be patient for that process.
Once iStripper is up and running again, go again to the Settings -> Data, to select now your new Location.

Click again on "Change Directory" and "Add new Folder" and now a new Window should open,
    generated from PlayOnLinux.

  • Single click on that Disk icon on the left, and you should see your home Directory
between "etc" and "lib" on the right.
  • Double click on that and you should see your Username "howard", double click on that too.
  • Now you should see your Folder "is_data" Double click (that is important) and you should see now
an empty space on the right side in that Window.
  • If that is the case, click on the "Open Button" down right in that Window, and once that Window is closed,
click on the Apply Button in iStripper to confirm your action.

  • I hope this Screenshot will help you to identify all that.

    https://i.imgur.com/r3GyuL5.jpeg

Once iStriper has closed and is up and running again, go to your Collection and all your Shows should be
"greyed out" again, if that is the case all was working so far.

Now go to Settings again and hit now the Button "Rebuild Collection" and your iStripper Logo in your
Taskbar will turn into a spinning circle.

This shouldn't take too long, but you have to wait until you can see the iStripper Logo again, and your PC
will become unusable during that process, as always patience is the key.
Once that is done, go to My Collection and you should see now your two downloaded Shows.

Like mentioned before and if you are unsure for all that, you can leave your Shows in the default "models"
Folder, but i can't tell you if you will loose Access to your Collection, in case something goes wrong
    on the Totem Servers again.

First of all your default File manager in Mint is Nemo,

In Mint Mate, the default File Manager is Caja. In Cinnamon it is Nemo. I don't suppose it makes any difference. I avoid breadcrumb navigation most of the time.

On the Desktop point: How else can I run the program? Are you suggesting I run the models and backgrounds on a media player?

I will be away until Wednesday and won't have a chance to take up your suggestions till Thursday/Friday.

Thank you very much for your interest and advice.

Right ... i forgot that Mint is providing several Desktopenvironment's too :)
As well as Ubuntu is providing a Cinnamon Flavour again, including Mate since quiet some time.

    https://ubuntu.com/desktop/flavours
I don't suppose it makes any difference.
There are slightly differences between them, and i picked a few more Links in case
you want to know more about it.

    https://wiki.mate-desktop.org/mate-desktop/applications/caja/

    https://learnubuntumate.weebly.com/uploads/1/0/8/4/108446579/caja-file-manager.pdf

But to be honest to keep an overview about everything is quiet a Challenge,
that is the problem when it comes to diversity in Linux.
On the Desktop point: How else can I run the program?
Are you suggesting I run the models and backgrounds on a media player?
Nope :) i suggested to use iStripper in Full Screen mode only, and avoid using the Desktop mode.

At least for now and on the current state, it is the only way to watch your Shows
    without any strange glitches.

    Back again!

I followed your very detailed instructions to the letter. I have the models folders now in home/howard/is_data.
I have verified this in several ways.

The 'rebuild' routine does not work. I rebuilt some models manually. These open in Preview mode as shown, even in full screen.
There are no context driven options.

    https://web.tresorit.com/l/foHSF#zbqWWdC5ZsDi1kdwGJfrGA

If I exit iStripper before closing Preview, the Preview masks the taskbar so I cannot exit. The keyboard is also disabled including ESC. The only way to escape is to reboot!

I appreciate all the help I have had on this board, but I am giving up now. Please do not send more advice - I appreciate the large efforts you made to help but it is time to call a halt.

I am sorry I could not make it work. It might be me, or it might be something in Mint.
