I noticed that in my options there are different settings for shows. Is there a way to search by how explicit the shows are?
Also, is there a way to turn off auto updates?

Auto updates can be turned on/off from the download tab of the application.
You can not sort shows by explicitness. Nearly all shows contain explicit animations and beyond that they are not classified.
Until you purchase/own a card you should only get non-nude animations.
