Hi everyone does anyone have some ideas of the simplest way to store models on an external drive or if possible have you tried on a NAS? I have nearly filled my drive up and as I have only a laptop I'm limited to 2tb of storage shared with OS and other docs VG uses about 1.8TB haha I thought about external but having to have the drive plugged in everytime is a ***** and I thought about swapping out the disc drive and using those drive adapaters to add a 2nd drive but I still use my blu ray drive.

I had it working on a NAS before but it had some delays at the start of shows. Before I switched to ac wireless card so it may not happen now. Simplest way I know is create a windows network drive and store the files in a folder linked to that drive.

Yes, you can set up a NAS, and it can be Wireless, but like cdub87 mentions, it might have some playback lag or delay between one clip ending, and the next one starting.

Just make sure that the Shared path ( network Share name ) remains the same.

you can even use Multiple Storage Paths,
so you can keep a few favorites Local on the Laptop HDD, and store the rest on the NAS

on the advance settings Under Data,
Click on CHANGE
there you can ADD an additional PATH to the Models.
the 1st PATH is where it will Save anything New.

Note: This PATH and Multiple Paths are ONLY for the Models folder.
the Data folder will remain on the Laptop

So if you copy or Move your Files.
Don't Move the Data folder.

Thanks guys I just went and borrowed a 120gb blank drive and tried it using my modems usb port, was a bit tricky to set up but all in all I put 4 models on it and it worked :) once I put them in a folder called Models haha. I see what you mean with the lag it wasn't to bad though, shows didn't start straight away if they were 80MB+ in size it looked as though via task manager they were buffing before playing because my wifi would run at speeds of 80mbps for 15 odd seconds before playing a movie it probably didn't help the usb port was 2.0 I do have to upgrade my modem for our aussie nbn so Ill look at a new one with 3.0 or even esata otherwise a nas device like synology with gigabit ethernet might fix this issue
