The way to lure people into a product is a very important aspect for any company. Of course, once you manage to interest people about the product, you need an strategy to turn that people into paying customers. And, once they become paying customers, you have to find ways to keep them interested and spending money.

This little article is not about advertising, though, but rather about some promotional deeds and the proverbial carrot in front of your nose.

3 Million user celebration

This happened a long time ago. Currently there are more than 10 million users that downloaded the software (that's not equal to 10 millions of customers, though). Anyway, when VG achieved the 3 million users mark, they sent a mail to people that had previous versions or products to invite them to install the HD version, attracting them with a little present.

The free card move

The people that never get an invitation like that, still had the chance to score a free show through other adult sites that have a promotional agreement with Totem. As mentioned before, you can see some chicks here wearing t-shirts with the "Freeones" logo. If you install the software using the promotion in that site, you get a full show of one of those chicks.

Also, you might have noticed that many one card users have Vicky S's Golden River as their only show. Well, that's because that card is also a promotion in many sites advertising VG, not because everybody is crazy about miss Vicky S. Hum, actually, i am, but didn't get her as a present cause i came here through a damn banner with no price attached to it.


Christmas present

A couple of years ago, the company offered a Christmas present of sorts. The conditions to that promotion are lost in time and under a lot of dust. Despite my inquiring efforts, didn't get anymore insight about this matter. All i know is that it seems that you got an undetermined number of free tickets after buying an undetermined number of tickets of after spending some amount of money.

Not a lot of ho, ho, ho! there, i know, but it was better than coal in the socks,i guess.


Valentine's Day Special

Back on 2008, there was an special offer consistent in a booster pack that included 12 high rated girls for around ten bucks. Not a lot of information about this one in the forums, but seems that it was a fixed booster pack with the same chicks for everybody, so several buyers asked to remove the cards duplicated in their collections after buying the booster pack. I suppose that was a ***** in the... hu, neck for the company.

Anyway, this Valentine's day special is surely the origin of the booster packs as we know them. And speaking of...

Booster Packs

About a year ago, when i joined the site, there was a welcome booster pack, a mix of 12 girls for about 10 dollars. This booster pack is available at least since march, 2008, and only available to users with zero cards in their collections. I recall that i didn't like the mixing and ended up buying a Big Boobs one as my first one. Of course, later i decided to give it a try, but the 12 cards booster pack wasn't available for me anymore and that thing was out of my reach forever, lol. I dunno if that welcome pack is still available for the newbies this days, but i suppose so.

On may 20, 2008, in the thread "Boosters Packs" (where else?), Rex announced the introduction of 5 of current booster packs selections:

"There are 5 boosters packs of 10 girls: blondes, brunettes, stockings, big boobs and bikini that are made of the 10 best remaining girls you're still missing in that category.

Booster packs are displayed randomly in the left column and at the top of the browse girls page."

Also, the Duos Booster pack was added a little later.

Since the booster packs were then changing according to your collection, they became a nice way to gather chicks with a less randomness factor than a subscription, spending basically one buck per card that it is cheaper than buying with tickets, even if you're not very fond of some of the girls included there.

Imho, there should be a link to all the available booster packs, though, cause this random booster pack pop up requires a lot of page refreshing to get the booster pack you're looking for and it is kinda annoying.

As a side note, on October 15, 2009, Rex announced new booster packs to come. Asians, Readheads, Army chicks and girls wearing latex and leather outfits were mentioned as possibilities. Still nothing on that front, but maybe they are waiting to get enough chicks that fit into those categories. I recall i suggested a "Czech Girls" booster pack back then, as a certain way to keep a booster pack always available for everyone.

The Special one ticket offer eviluti... er... evolution

As mentioned sevaral times before (see the above index), there was a cool special offer system that offered you all the chicks "visiting" you in your calendar in the softaware. Due to events exposed before, the calendar was removed on July 02, 2009, and the special one ticket offer was placed in the website.

That special offer consisted in a single card at one time that was replaced by another after a fixed stock, 400 copies, was depleated by users buying the card.

Although the Totem fellows tried to convince the users that the change was for better and that it was "funnier" for the users, the truth is that almost everybody ***** the system. It was boring, frustraiting, repetitive (see page 4, "The reign of Morgane"), and basically pissed off anyone that lacked the ***** philosophy of Saint Therese of Lisieux.

The only "bright" side, if any, was that the new releases were placed as specials on the same day of the release, giving birth to the "camping days", when users waited to fight for one of the 400 copies that, in many cases, were the only specials that the fully stocked members and even midway stocked members had. Very bad days, man.

The VIP status was created as a little compensation to the most dedicated members, ergo the heavy spenders, giving them a partially restored calendar, making the trailers available for those one ticket special offers again and, by that little action, taking the "old timers" off them backs. For a while, anyway. Shesh, don't make start with that, lol. Hum, i'll restart by myself later.


Enter Hustlergirls

To date, the Hustlergirls site is a mystery to many. Well, back on January, 2009, some users spotted an identical site to VGHD, but under the name of the famous porn brand Hustler. Many thought it was a cloned site of this one, but it was actually a promotional agreement between Totem and Larry Flint's company. The site was identical to VG for all purposes, except, and that's why i'm talking about it here, that site used to run a different special offer.

Yup, installing both softwares gave you the chance to buy in both places and actually making the special offer a two options choice. Not a big deal, but better than one.

But, at some point, they settled down the special offer to be the same in both sites so it was back to square one.

VIP users with both softwares installed had twice as much trailers to chose from as specials.

The Half-Price Holiday special

On December 18, 2009, the company runned a really successful promotion. The whole VG girls collection was offered for one ticket instead of two. After all that time with a single card as an special, it was a rampage not seeing since Alexander The Great sacked the Reign of Persia. People went from almost nothing to platinum and even VIP in a matter of hours.

It was so good that the Half-Price Holiday special was still available after some time into the current year and the company manifested the intention to make the one ticket for all you wanted a permanent thing. At the end, they didn't, but after all that goodness, returning to the single special offer would had been a little less than ***** to the users, so...


The Eight cards a day one ticket special offer

On January 14, 2010, Celine announced the arrival of the current special offer. A selection of 8 chicks everyday in the website for one ticket each.

Once this offer was in place, the cards in the Hustlergirls site were different again than those in the VG site, so there were in fact 16 cards available for those with both softwares installed. And, as before, some time later the cards were made the same for both sites and we were back to square two.

Spoiling the VIP status

Not too long ago, the once exclusive VIP special offer was handled to everyone and their uncle, making the red star users as important the next freeloader (i told you i would be restarting by myself, lol).

Despite several promises made by the company to implement a new deal for the VIPs, it has been more than 6 months now and counting waiting for the before mentioned benefit.

Last news about this topic are that the topic was to be discussed in a monday meeting like 18 days ago. Guess we shall wait now till the world cup is over, and then after the VG2 remakes are done, and then after Godot finally arrives and it will surely be announced to be implemented the very next day after the world expires on December, 2012.

Your detailed historical account is not only great reading for new and old members but is highly entertaining and interesting. What I really enjoy about it is that is educational,, and you know how I enjoy anything educatonal:) What suprises me is how it has remained virtually "spam" free especially of utube garbage. Unlike most of the forum. Of course one has to remember that those spammers do not have sufficient attention span to read something this detailed:)

Since you are nearly catching up to the present with your history I am wondering what we might expect next? Possibly Totem current affairs editorials or even maybe some predictions into the future of Totems plans for the sites? Possibly for the latter I could be of some assistance since I have previously made some predictions that a few even have come to pass:) I'm still waiting for my DB one but feel confident it will:)

However, don't despair Oquijan, you know that it is now nearing weeks end. For the fans

I was saving this chapter as the last part of this little thread of mine. I have some material yet to explore and post, but it is time to bring this to an end. So...

Well, we're all here for the girls, i suppose. We have more that a 100 models now in VG, yet the interaction between the models and their fans has been rather scarce, to say the least.

Still, a few of our favorites have some presence in the forums, mostly through Stanzeflasher's mediation, but some as very special star members of the community. Here a compilation of the traces of our beauties i have found while digging in the past of the VG forum. no particular order, though.

Ice cream in Paris.

Here's a picture of Gwen having an icecream. As you can see, is the same icecream stand as in the Ariel's picture. Dunno if Stanze takes all the girls for an icecream, though, cause two pics hardly makes a patron. Cute pic, nevertheless.

The one in the second picture is Lorena in Paris, with a classic tourist style. Dunno if Stanze is the photograph, but Lorena looks pretty. Also i dunno if she had an icecream before or after the picture was taken or who paid for it, lol.
