Some newer members of this community have been asking for more pointers and guidelines on what is and is not spamming. With a tip of the hat to comedian Jeff Foxworthy, let's see if some of the more experienced members of this community can pick up this ball and run with it. Humor is not absolutely required, but it can't *****. Let's hope that something that is now more like work for the moderators can become fun for the community. I'll start. . .

You might be a spammer if... the first thing you do when you boot up your computer is to count how many times your name appears in the Hottest Topics and Last 50 Posts.

You might be a spammer if you make threads showing spammers ways to spam the forum.

Seriously BigSteve, no offense but this is a bad idea, you're not feeding the troll you're giving them a whole menu instead.

@3Legged:

I'm an optimist, and I hope this will turn into an eye-catching resource for newbies who genuinely want to understand the rules. And when a point can be made with humor, it's probably going to be more memorable.

I don't believe Jeff Foxworthy's "You might be a ***** if..." line of humor resulted in the creation of a lot of new rednecks, so I'm hoping this thread does not become a resource for trolls. If I'm wrong, and this thread makes more trouble than it solves, I will apologize.

You are already on the half way to become an approved spammer, if you choose to post your very first one, no matter, what it may be.

Seriously, guys, another question rose up... who the hell are these Trolls, living here. How to explain that?

The definition of "troll" is being explored in great depth as we speak in the thread > Ideas > Forum Etiquette Rules. Much easier to jump over there to read, rather than repeating it here.

If we need a definition of "spammer," I submit that a spammer is one who sends out a high volume of unwanted and unwelcome posts. I do hope MrBeeKeeper is joking when he says spamming begins with one's very first post. Feel free to embellish and provide examples of the type of poster who may be a spammer if. . .

You're right, I was kidding and thank you - already found the definition of the "Troll" in Forum Etiquettes... Oquijan explains the nature of this creature quite thoroughly, just your topic happened to be the first one, which I opened when logged in.

No joke....True story....Really happened....No sh**....

No may be or might be or possibly here.

You ARE spamming if you post around 240 pics in about 2 hours time. That was around 80 posts with 3 pics each....non stop....back to back.

Chew on that spam for a little while.

@CyberVixen,

I hope you're still LOLing, because it NEVER coulda been you. In my book, it's never spamming when you're being genuinely helpful, and you always are. By definition, moderators' posts should never be considered spam -- it's like the Pope and infallibility, or Nixon's famous "If the President does it, it's not illegal."

If you're even partially serious about worrying about being a spammer with your replacement card contributions, once again I would have to disagree. You put those posts exactly where they belong and where the community wants to see them, and I can't imagine a single person would have a problem with that. Our only worry is that you might stop. Thanks again for all you do.

A spammer is someone who... Oh crimeny, I'm becoming a troll... A spammer is one who posts pointless material. Spamming occurs when this pointless material rises to an annoying volume where people start to think that maybe you might be a spammer. When the general consensus, is that you are in fact a spammer, you are then, at that moment, a spammer.

More to the point if you are warned about any behavior, or type of post and you ignore that warning and continue doing what you were told not to, then, you are a spammer. Before that, you were ignorant.

If you are unsure about something, usually because you were told not to do that something by another member and not by a moderator, it is exceptable to ask questions. There is an old quote, "It is better to ask questions and be thought a fool, then to not ask questions, and to act like one."

@Lameman, "It is better to ask questions and be thought a fool, then to not ask questions, and to act like one." - very well said!

You might be a spammer if. . . you think that whole Forum is just a joke, you have nothing to do - you're bored and you start posting just for having fun...

Now it's going probably off topic, but to Lameman again - I've read your opinion about Trolls and have to say that agree with that - not all Trolls are bad.
Here in Scandinavia we've lived in the land of real Trolls and Fairies for thousands of years. Side by side with them. There are always good Trolls and bad ones, and Fairies are also good and evil as well as it is among the people. Now it's up to you to understand and decide, who is who, but that's not easy, 'cause bad trolls always pretend, but good ones never do ];-)

The version of that joke I heard was, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

But around here one can remain silent and still get a lot out of this forum.

In the meantime, we're still looking for more posts that would shed light on the behavior characteristics of spammers.

You might be an spammer if you find yourself bargaining with the mods how much stuff you can post at any given day. ;)

Your might be a spammer IF you're going to open a new topic every time you have a question or idea or whatsoever, because you're just too lazy to make a Search to be sure that this topic doesn't exist already.
Multiple threads with the same name and the same content - definitely spam in my ignorant opinion ];-)
"Skins" is a good example.
