I found the registry key that starts istripper/vghd:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\DesktopVideoPlayer

I run a script that removes all of the registry RUN and RUNONCE entries.
that script runs each time I start windows and on a task schedule.

So mine doesn't start from the registry entry.

Generally, really good job. IMHO an improvement.

That said a few issues:
  • Auto start does not seem to work. Most times the application just does not start, no systray icon. One time it half started, was consuming a steady 28% CPU, but nothing on screen and systray icon remained a red exclamation mark and did not respond to clicks.
  • Unable to start minimised. Not a big issue in itself.
  • Home screen uses too much CPU. Windows shows it using 25 to 35% CPU. Whilst switching to forum and it drops to 4%. Home is pretty, but what is doing to use that much CPU? All I can see is the banners rotating,

I agree that I really do not appreciate the improvements in this beta.

I probably purchased 85% of my cards based on finding them in the Carousel. Devastated that this is going to be gone.

And the new look is so generic/industrial. Not sure what was wrong with the prior version that this was felt to be an improvement?

Moi aussi mais sans être dévasté pour autant 😉

Hi, this looks like a firewall/antivirus issue where the program iStripper is being blocked from accessing web pages. The new beta 1.2.512 now has a signed executable file, please let us know if you still encounter the problem with it. If you do, can you try deactivating your antivirus before launching iStripper and tell me if it works without it (just for the sake of testing for now)?

Hi there, new Version did not change anything, deactivating AV did nothing, so i tried run the App as Admin and now everything seems to work like it should be.
I don't know why, this was never an issue before, especially because i could acces the Store and download Cards without a Problem. I also never set any restrictions to iS as an Admin. But now all is good. Thanks.

Beside that a smaller issue i found, the new Drop down Menu when i click on my Username is in darkmode from Win 10 not or barely readable.

Typically, though not always, such problems have in the past been due to lack of sufficient free resources on the system that you are running on. Try switching between using CPU and GPU rendering.

I'm really liking this new version of iStripper; thanks Totem. I appreciate that 2 of my recent suggestions were incorporated into this version (independent volume controls & larger thumbnails on a model's overview & other shows tab). I'll miss the lovely carousel, but I guess it was causing problems for a lot of people. I haven't tried the "Play All Clips" option of a card, but hopefully it'll work better in this version.

Hi, can you please shared with me a screenshot of that behaviour (through Discord if necessary)? The text color or dropdownmenu color don't seem to change on my end when I change the Windows theme

@PSEUDO6ISME - if you get pissed off because a Beta test version of the program is highlighting issues, then I would suggest you stay on the production version of the software until all the beta testing has been completed and the version gets promoted to production.

Leave Beta testing to the people who want to participate.

You are correct I should of learned from past betas with this company. and I will leave it for others as the software is rushed out with bugs every time.

We have now an automatic update of the software. The version 1.2.512 has been installed automatically over 1.2.510 without asking me if I wanted to update.
I would like to have the choice to do the update or not by just downloading the installer.

Just what did you think a beta version was ?

The reason that they exist is so that they get tested thoroughly by volunteers, more thoroughly and on a greater variety of hardware than can be done otherwise. They are how software gets thoroughly tested.

As would I.

@stefnev1 - I am surmising that the reason for the auto update is to have people testing on the latest version at all times - it makes it easier to keep track of where errors occur and to reproduce them.

If there are multiple versions, the testers often omit to tell you which version they were running so the developers could waste time looking in the wrong place 😊

That may be so, but it runs the risk of reducing the willingness of some of the volunteers to participate in the testing program.

In any kind of software test the software version showing a defect is critical to understanding the defect. I think the automatic updates are a great idea. You can't IMAGINE how hard bug crushing is when you have dozens of versions in active use!

Beta testing is critical because the internal testers can never test everything over all settings and environments and preferences that the users do. I have been impressed just how well Totem has been doing with this process- especially the surveys. I don't think I have ever seen anyone do that better.

I hope lots of people keep running the latest beta code because that's what makes this work.

Yes I can - as a developer I have ***** from being ***** to support multiple versions of software packages. But as a user I ***** having the software change under my feet without having a chance to say that I don't want to update just now. At the very least you should have the opportunity to delay an update until a more convenient moment.

I don't expect the developers to actively support more than the most recent release and being told to update to that if I want bugs being fixed, but I also expect to be able to plan when an update occurs. I also don't mind having an "in your face" nagging pop-up asking if I want to update now or later - just don't assume that I want it done.

I hope lots of people keep running the latest beta code because that's what makes this work.

So do I, but having it ***** automatic updates on me is one way of dissuading me from doing so.

I'm 100% in Support of the BETA version Self updating to the Most current BETA version.

But I would NOT want a Release Version to Self Update, Unless I wanted it to, or
there was a Setting I had to Have Set.
Allow Automatic Updates.
YES
NO

I'm even ok with YES being the default after every install / upgrade
as long as I am still able to set it to No.

to all that simply criticize beta software issues... it seems you have no experience of software testing/debugging.
Totem may have 6 or so people available to test software .. so it could take many months to find and resolve any bugs.
Instead, they offer a beta test version to those members that want to help (it is not 'rushed out with bugs').
Now with hundreds of people testing and reporting bugs, the product will mature faster for release.
Please don't just criticize beta software... help if you can ... avoid if you can't

Yes, if you can't stand finding bugs please do not run the beta. I prefer myself to have some input into the design decisions behind the new version. We have seen at least three design changes- not bugs- that have not been universally received with cries of joy. And if not for the people running the beta we wouldn't even know about them.

I wouldn't have myself expected that the carousels were as popular as it seems to have been, especially since the contents of them- and more- are right there on the home page now. But that's why they need feedback.

The dislike with the card size simplification was more predictable, at least when you consider the huge variety of displays that people are using. Two sizes aren't going to do the job.

And the issues you get with deleting cards and playlists when the system no longer keeps track of what you have deleted aren't going to be found with developers and testers that never delete cards. That takes running it past real users that keep their collections pruned down.

And yes, ***** automatic updates are acceptable for beta releases ONLY. I completely agree with @Wyldanimal here.

I am not so happy to have no control as to whether an update is applied even to a beta.

This latest update caught me by surprise, I was not ready to accept it, so I ***** iStripper as the update was still downloading. I then completed some work that I felt was important was not interrupted. Only then did I manually apply the update when I judged that it was safe to do so. As it happened that was only a few minutes later and the work was not very important, but it could well have been hours or even days and the work could have been very important.

With automatic updates you have no idea what other work may be interrupted if the update has problems. I want to be able to control when such risky (doubly so with betas) processes.

Betas should never be mandatory. Some users will not want to test the software.

When version 12376 (or 78) is no longer usable, I will be done with istripper. No more purchases and no more interaction with the forum.

Betas should never be mandatory. Some users will not want to test the software.

No one was ***** to test the software. The choice to update to a beta was not mandatory, it was the update from one test version to the next that was *****, but this was only after accepting the choice to be a tester. Actually more than just "accepting the choice" but deciding to deliberately go out of your way to separately download and run the installer rather than use the regular update function of the software.

I do think, however, that it could be made clearer to naive users that by running the beta's installer they are partaking in a test program using a program that has not yet been fully debugged. Perhaps the first thing the installer should do is display a large "friendy" warning about this and ask you if that was OK or not. That should at least help to avoid complaints like "the software is rushed out with bugs" being directed at beta versions.

If nothing else Totem are getting some feedback on the idea of ***** updates that they can apply to the non-beta releases.

I think it speaks volumes that I was willing to knowingly risk corrupting my iStripper installation by aborting the ***** update by using Windows task manager to ***** iStripper rather than let it proceed without my express permission.

👍

It should be made very clear that it is a TEST version and not meant to be used by inexperienced users.

to be honest ... if they dont understand the large print words NEW BETA, i suspect they will probably just click the install button anyway and ignore any warnings

as long as they can reinstall the last known release, they will recover

The auto-update of the Beta is and will remain for the Beta versions only.
And nobody will be ***** to move to the Beta...
Only the "Beta to newer Beta" will be automated
