Do you use an IPS, TN, VA monitor... or do you use a TV?

Any thoughts/opinions welcome! Hope everyone is doing well! 😎❤️

Which one do you prefer?

I'm using a VA monitor because of the contrast (deep black is very nice) and the fidelity of the colors.

I'm using a 42inch FullHD TV because i like the abillity to arrange several Windows on that Big Screen.
And it's also pretty Handy for Videocutting, when you need to arrange bigger projects in your Timeline.
But for a 42inch Display it should be better a 4K Resolution, specifically when you are sitting so close
to a FullHD Display with that Size.

That cannot be good for your eyes, sitting that close 😵

Maybe ... but this is not me on the Picture. I picked it randomly from a Google Search.
But it is possible that i will end up someday the same Way 😈

Strange enough that the same Guy has a different Opinion of the same Topic.

I use a TN panel from Samsung, because it's 4k and I'm a cheapskate.

The 32" supports AMD Freesync (the PC has an AMD chipset) through Displayport and has a 1ms response time, so motion is well displayed and there's no ghosting. I had to calibrate the color settings, but it was so much better than my old monitor that I've never worried that VA or IPS might have been a better choice. It's not HDR, which I guess could be better. The viewing angle problem with TA doesn't apply, given that I work straight in front of it.

4k videos run through PowerDVD18 are better than iStripper, so I think that I'm currently limited by Totem's video player technology. PowerDVD has lots of settings tweaks, which allow me to optimise replay for the monitor. Maybe the colour would be better with VA or IPS, but I guess I'll never know....

I have three displays on my Mac. The center one is a 43" Philips 4K. The one on the right is a 30" HP 2560 X 1600. The one on the left is a 23" HP 1920 X 1080. I generally play iStripper in small mode at 40% on the center only. It gives me a good view of the models when I want it and allows me a lot of room for work. I sit about 30" from the displays. Close enough to read all the fine print and far enough to see the whole screen.

I have a 4K display because I create very large (3' X 6') entity relationship diagrams. The display allows me to see the maximum possible amount of a diagram without having the print so small that I can't read it.

According to the specs my Philips is a TP Vision TPT430U3 EQYSHM IPS-type (In-Plane Switching type) LCD Panel.
The 30" is listed as TFT LCD
The 23" is listed as LED-backlit LCD monitor / TFT active matrix.

I've never claimed to have a neat desk. The parts you can't see are worse.

My desk, incidentally, is 12' long and 26" wide. I built it myself about 40 years ago.

Then i'm glad that you didn't made a Picture from that Part 😀

This is always a smart Option. You can make yourself free, from Industry Standards 👍

A 40" screen is a waste anyway. You're only compensating for something... X)

I went with two LG UltraWide 25UM56-P (TFT) set side by side for 2 x (2560 x 1080)
That's 48 inch by 15 inch of physical deskspace.
I have a few wide screen movies and just like the extra real estate.
Goodthing I forgo the 34 inch version, that would have been too much space.
Cheap and not 2K even, but I use Samung Smartview to transmit videos to livingroom 4K bigscreen.
Plus I have Rift S for really , really wide screen videos.

No, it's just a sign of someone who is so focused on something he doesn't take the time to clean up. Until I married I had a similar problem with uncollected dirty laundry.

Well, waste is a subjective matter. As for compensating, I'm 77.

I have a 40 inch monitor which I use for TV, Roku, Blu-ray/DVD, and my PC. I used to have to switch over to VGA input for my computer to my sound bar but my new computer has Display Port. With a DP-HDMI cable I know have all my inputs on HDMI and don't have switch outputs on my sound bar.

Specifically when you can do this with your Desktop Environment,

or this

or even this.

So ya, it's not about compensating, it's all about a good Workflow.
By the way, when these Guys talk about the Super-Key, they mean the Windows-Key.

I guess I should of put "other" as an option lol. Thanks for all the comments guys, it's always interesting to read what people have to share. I switch back and forth from landscape to portrait mode on a MSI VA panel and a Lenovo IPS panel depending on my activity routine. Both monitors are 1080p but I have shows downloaded in 3K because they look crisper! 😎😈

I'm still using my Samsung SyncMaster 2494HM monitor. It's about 10 years old but still working like a charm at 1920x1080 resolution. I have been wanting to upgrade for a long time, but can't justify myself to purchase a 4K screen when there's nothing wrong with this one. Occasionally I connect my PC to my tv (4K 55" LG OLED) via HDMI, though.

Kind of hoping this one dies at last so that buying a new one wouldn't feel like a waste... :)

I've been using a 4k monitor for 4 years now (not that expensive - $300-400 for a 28 inch from Samsung) and just recently got a laptop with a 4k HDR screen. The big difference is not the increased resolution (I usually set it to 2560x1440 as it's less taxing on my computer and not noticeably different at that size). The big difference is that 4k has 10 bit color, as opposed to the 8 bit color that is standard for HDTV. That means about 60 times more shades of colors. Seriously, it's like night and day and I can always tell the difference between 8 bit and 10 bit.

Some screens also have 12 bit color now, which means about 4000 more shades than 8 bit. HDR is becoming standard, which basically means an increased brightness and contrast (I can already notice it on my laptop, but it's on the low end of the HDR standard so not much). And the new standard for color, Rec. 2020, calls for more than twice the range of colors than the last standard, Rec. 709 (HDR also has increased color range, but nowhere near Rec. 2020). This last one is what's giving companies the most trouble, but they're getting there, especially with the new QLED tech.
